Le Roy Standish did not do enough homework for his article regarding local service organizations. The local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Eagles just celebrated its 104 anniversary for the men, the 81st for the women and the 7th for the junior members under 18, at a banquet on Jan. 19.
Over $30,000 was donated to local charity groups who were in attendance. The money is raised by our membership each year through fundraising efforts. Every Christmas up to 80 local children are given $100 each to go Christmas shopping for themsleves or family members. We put together Christmas baskets containing food for a week and presents for 35 to 50 families. Local nursing homes are visited and presents given at Christmas and Easter.
The national membership donates almost a $1,000,000 annually to charity. Our motto is “People Helping People.”
Local media are always invited to our events but choose not to attend or even acknowledge our efforts to better our community. Shame on you!
