My heartfelt thanks and congratulations to the Colorado Department of Wildlife for feeding the Gunnison (and other areas’) mule-tailed deer. The DOW’s vote to spend thousands of dollars ($160,000 from discretionary funds) to bring in tons of specially formulated feed so 21,000 stressed animals can feed, is a tribute to the DOW. Keep it up.
My question is, if the DOW can spend $160,000 (it may go into the millions including donations) for specially formulated feed to feed these stressed out deer, why can’t they develop feed stations up in the mountains to feed a starving mother bear and her newborn cubs? They would rather use their discretionary funds to buy bullets and murder these defenseless bears, than to do something positive like they are doing for the deer. They should have bumper stickers on all of their trucks stating, “DOW: Feed a deer — Kill a bear” or if that doesn’t suit them how about “Colorado bear killers feeding deer with your tax money.”
Stop discriminating against the bears — they are starving when they come down looking for food, just like the thousands of deer needing food. Maybe our state senators will read this and do something if they won’t. We need feed stations for the bears.
