To the writer indicating that a show of Protestantism is a practice of religious discrimination (You Said It - 2/16/08), not having a general religious invocation is also practicing discrimination. Better to be safe then eternally sorry.

Are you suggesting that opening a BOCC meeting with only Evangelical prayers will save our souls from damnation. Personally, I’d rather have 5 commissioners who spend my tax dollars on real issues, like making sure oil and gas developers pay their fair share and don’t trash what we love about Colorado in the process.

In the New Testament, Matthew chapter 6, Jesus says:
“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
Jesus himself did not encourage public prayer. John, if you call yourself a Christian and believe that public praying can save anyone’s soul, you are a hypocrite!

You don’t know me Sir, calling me out is offensive. So is your attitude and your mis quoting the “ideal” behind the scripture you so strongly regard as something you know about. The point Jesus was making was to make sure the heart of the individual was in right order. If you read the whole chapter of Matt. 6 you would see the common thread that runs through the theme, is to check your own heart, your own standing, making sure that the tree in your own eye isn’t blinding your own vision of yourself making yourself biger then you actually are, a hypocirte; something you are doing right now. You like so many others twist the Word of God to fit your own agenda. You like so many others look on the outside rather then on the inside of a man’s heart and call your judgments good. I would rather respect the ideal of a greater power then to expect of myself that one doesn’t exist at all. “Eternally sorry” does not state a public prayer saves. Again, mis quoting a word to fit your own agenda, you can step down off your soap box now, no one’s listening, they have all walked away and gone home.

Tiag, you really should learn how to spell. Perhaps when you can write coherently, we can have a proper conversation. Until then, fare thee well, or as well as a fool can fare.
