Is anyone in our state as disgusted as I am regarding our Colorado State Board of Education abusing their expense accounts? The professional irresponsibility apparently starts at the very top in Colorado. Now to see it in print, not by a local reporter but with an Associated Press byline really makes me wonder if there is any group in this state willing to challenge the management, behavior and expenditures of our officials. The total lack of regard these officials have for Colorado’s taxpayers (that’s you and me, folks) is the sad reality of politics in Colorado. The more I read about this and other departments, I really wonder if the state officials are trying to create their own little aristocracy.
For the board to pay $2,028 plus a tip of $305 and $200 for the room to have a meeting in Telluride is irresponsible at best. Though it isn’t reported, I’m sure everyone attending also hit their expense accounts with a hotel charge. Surely, after such a wonderful meal they couldn’t possibly drive home.
Our school systems seem to be self-governing entities taking their cue from the State Board of Education. Who’s accountable? Where is the oversight? Who is watching our officials as they spend our tax dollars like water? Then they scream that there isn’t enough money to manage their departments. I feel their mantra is “more money, more money.” I would really like to know how much money they waste by their own greed.
As far as I’m concerned I will never vote on another school issue until I see this department start using common sense. You may have a Ph.D following your name, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve got a brain. In fact, I think the scarecrow would probably make a better administrator.
