Often a spouse will be dumped in mid-life when the other person decides to go "find themselves" or experience a midlife crisis with the help of a younger, sexier partner. And consider the many infants and children that are abused and neglected by their parents. When we cannot even treat fellow humans with respect, it comes as no surprise when our animal companions are treated this poorly. However, the vile, demonic idiots who abandon animals and mistreat their family will end up paying, if only in the hereafter. Look at the way so many people treat their own spouses.
