Alan Sage’s concern in his Feb. 15 letter to the editor that “global warming hysteria” has been foisted on the public by the complicit media is far wide of the mark. He is right on though when he says that “Science requires results that are verifiable by reference to the real world.” Let us look at what the vast majority of scientists say about this real world global phenomenon which the media are reporting.

The most recent authoritative work on this subject is the February 2007 report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the consensus of 600 scientists from 40 countries and reviewed by over 620 other experts and 113 governments. The conclusions are inescapable: Human-induced temperature increases over the past 50 years are real, measurable and accelerating. Contrary to Mr. Sage’s assertion, the effect of solar energy (from pre-industrial times to the present) is only about one-tenth of that of carbon dioxide and other gases which are causative agents and not after-the-fact bystanders. And yes, while the concentrations of CO2 are measure only in hundreds does account for the enhanced greenhouse effect. The resulting temperature increases are not confined to the northern hemisphere, but are worldwide. Of course, there are local departures. There are a few growing glaciers — but I suggest that Mr. Sage look at recent pictures of Glacier National Park and Mt. Kilimanjaro, among many others, to see the more general — and sadder — worldwide picture.

What many nay-sayers of human influence on global warming do not realize, is that the greater effects in the northern hemisphere correlate well with greater fuel burning, deforestation, automobile and jet-plane exhaust, etc., and that analyses of atmospheric samples can differentiate natural sources of CO2 from manmade causes. Since the human role in global warming is, per the IPCC, more than 90 percent likely, we should not wait for atmospheric Armageddon but start co-operating with the rest of the world to adopt measures that slow down and eventually reverse this trend. Mr. Sage notwithstanding, expenditures on green efforts will have significant material effects and our descendants will thank us for the clean air we bequeath them.

In his letter to the editor, Dusty Holman did not read his reference carefully. Nowhere is global warming mentioned in this U.S. Department of Energy Web site. It does say, “Evidence suggests this observed rise in atmospheric CO2 levels is due primarily to expanding use of fossil fuels.” Why is this the obvious connection to global warming not mentioned? Because the Bush administration has put a gag order not only on government climatologists but on all its officials that prohibits drawing this inference. So it is not clear that “the government believes in global warming,” but it is certain that the vast majority of scientists emphatically do.

The global warming naysayers care little about the science. It is a tribal, political thing. If enviornmentalists and others believe the scientific facts and are for doing something about it, they are against it. As a group they seem the world is theirs to enjoy and exploit in their lifetimes and those that follow will have to live–or not–with whatever the results of inattention and denial are.

The biggest item of proof that so-called global warming is NOT caused by man is the fact that algore is pushing it.

This is the “person” (read embicile) that invented the internet, served as the role model for Love Story (even though the author has repeatedly denied the claim), “no controlling legal authority”, which discounts numerous federal laws that actually were the “controlling legal authority”.

Furthermore, ALL models used by the warming whackos deny the effects of Solar activity.
Nor have they bothered to explain the Antartic ice cap being larger, and thicker than anytime during the last 30 years.
They have not acknowledged that the mean temperature of the Earth (that’s the whole big ball) has decreased slightly over the last decade.
The warmest year on record in the last century was in the 1930’s, BEFORE the massive buildup of the industrialized nations.

And Why are these “experts” and “top rated scientists” so quiet on the Mars ice caps diminishing in size? And THAT would be totally without HUMAN involvement.

    BUT!!!

I can create some carbon credits for you to buy if it will help you feel better.
After all, what could be more environmentally friendly than emulating algore?
OH WAIT! In order to emulate him you would need to burn more fossil fuels to heat your house than any other private residence in the State of Kentucky. Fly all over the world in your private jet that burns more fuel in one hour than 500 cars and light trucks, etc.

And then you question OUR intelligence?

    interesting…..

Even the title of this article is wrong.

“GLOBAL WARMING IS BELIEVED BY MOST SCIENTISTS”.

“believed” but never proven, ie: non fact based theories.

“most”, well a few politically driven “scientists” agree because future funding requires they “believe” or their money will dry up and force them to find a job in the real world.

and may I point out as well that a “consensus” does not scientifically PROVE anything. Its a group of people that believe something as in a consensus of people in the 15th century believed the earth was flat.

  5. i_am_brucelee

and one more little thing. if a consensus of scientists got together and decided that gravity was false, would you beleive that too? or would you need some old fatherly ex pres to tell you it was true??

  6. Rexall

Right on! !! I see where now the founder of the Weather Channel is calling Global Warming a scam and believes it is only a matter of time until someone sues Al Gore for Global fraud.

I still want to sell my unused carbon credits. At $35000.00 each they are a true bargain.

Besides, it’s good for Mother Earth, the economy, and should make any true liberal Bush Hater the envy of all their friends.

I only have a few available though.

  8. Rexall

You better discount those credits as when the truth comes out about the global warming scam no one will want to buy them.

  9. Willis_Leon_Johnson

    Sorry, I don’t offer refunds.

If I find someone that is enough “in tune” with the natural harmonies of the Planet to see how valuable the offer is, then we both will achieve a win-win arrangement.

They’ll feel good about using my carbon credits, and I’ll feel good about printing a few more certificates….

And besides, the TRUTH is already out there, it just doesn’t fit what they want, so in their eyes, it doesn’t exist.
