I had a chance to attend one of the planning meetings for the proposed Fruita recreation center and was impressed by the enthusiastic crowd. We were asked for our opinions and inputs on what types of facilities would be useful and a lot of good ideas were discussed.
I am very pleased that the final plan includes so many features. I think this plan will appeal to everyone. It will be a beautiful facility that provides a wide range of recreational services to all age groups. It is worth the extra one percent sales and use tax to see this happen.
Once again Fruita is ahead of the curve. I’m excited to live in such a progressive community and I encourage Fruita citizens to join me in voting “Yes” on Issue A.

A rec center would be nice but not at this price. Why should we pay $12,000,000 to $15,000,000 and then have to pay a users fee to use it? The Vail rec center loses over a $1,000,000 a year at their rec center and that city has a better tax base than Fruita. I think the city is under estematint that our rec center will opperate at only a $344,000 deficit. Just wait if this passes we’ll see a property tax increase to fund the deficit.
Please join me and vote No on A.
