Yet more bumbling–or is it lack of caring–by our inept County Commissioner Janet Rowland. Relative to serious shortcomings in the child and family section of the county’s Human Services department she says that now is the time to pay attention to a review done in 2005. That was the year in which she took office, was it not? Did she have anything to do with commissioning the review? It doesn’t matter. It was there for her to study and then take action.

Now she’s running for re-election and finds the review actually has some relevancy in the lives of some unfortunate Mesa County families and kids. Where has she been for the last three years? Other than being a rubber stamp for the policies of Craig Meis relative to energy company favoritism at the expense of the people they were elected to serve, Ms. Rowland has tried hard to project an image of “it’s all about the children”.

Now, at election time, she would like to reinforce that undeserved caring image after three years of inaction when the review made it clear that children were being poorly served in the county in 2005. In 2008 it apparently hasn’t changed, but now she’s interested?

I hope voters won’t be fooled. She may be an establishment Republican and Republicans predominate in this county but voters need to consider her replacement with someone who actually cares, and acts, in the interest of citizens as opposed to her posturing and seeking political office based on getting publicity and trying to generate an image on promises unfulfilled. Ever heard the term “empty suit”? She’s an empty bright colored dress.

What is it about our County Government’s “it’s not a big problem, and anyway, we’re looking into it now, so don’t give us any grief over it” way of dealing with massive oversights and mistakes, and what is it with the Sentinel’s “Oh, okay…if you guys say it’s no biggie, then it’s no biggie..moving on to wrestling scores….” responses?
Human Services needs another study to tell them they’re screwing up?
Criminal Justice Services violates Civil Liberties (and yes, even scumbags have Civil Liberties) and it’s “miscommunication” and “minor issues”?
I don’t mind a right-leaning newspaper, hell, this is a right-leaning town, gotta live with it…but, the head-in-the-sand stance the Sentinel has been taking lately towards our County Government is downright disappointing.

    I’ve seen Janet in person.

It’s not the dress that’s empty.

I’m looking forward to mr borgens and mr curmudgeons campaigns to take her seat on the County Commissioners.

May the best qualified person win.

Sorry. If nominated, I will not run. I am woefully unqualified for such a position.
I know nothing about backroom politics, spin, or how to suck up to the ridiculous idiots that pass for “power brokers” in this town.
I’m thinking WLJ would be a great replacement for Craig Meis, though. They’re virtually indistinguishable.

Not me, I’m way over qualified.

My IQ is in excess of 14, which is twice the average IQ of the current political field, including the city as well as the county.

Ms. Rowland has a couple of opponents, one petitioning onto the Republican primary ballot (Kearsley) and D.D. Lewis, the Dems nominee who will be on the general election ballot. We can only hope that there will be some useful public discussions in which the voters can hear Janet Rowland’s positions contrasted with those of her opponents on the issues that matter (see above). Should be interesting…
