I’m looking forward to a possible five-member Mesa County Board of Commissioners, if it goes through. I think it’s a fabulous idea. More representation will be a good thing for our growing and more diverse population.
I do have some concerns, though. In considering the tight job market on the Western Slope, can the energy companies’ face losing two more employees to work on the commission?

I’m in favor of a 5 person board.
BUT NOT if it has any “at large” members.
They need to be distinct district representatives, not an bunch of people approved of by the city and loaded against the county residents the way it has been in the past.
County residents should be able to hook up to persigo without “agreeing” to be annexed.
The sewage treatment plant began life as a co-equally owned facility.
Both the county and the city had equal shares.
Then corrupt politicians backed by the city destroyed that agreement and “created” the 201 district so the city could “legally” force annexation.

Five county commissioners may be a good idea but I think a better idea is to have each district vote for their own commissioner independently of the rest of the county, that way their is a stronger tie between the district and the commissioner that is representing them. As it stands, we vote for commissioners as a whole, even though the commissioner is supposed to just represent a singular district.
