I have been part of the proposed Fruita Community Recreation Center over the last two and one-half years. The planning process, public input and community support to get the Community Recreation Center to ballot was unbelievalbly positive.
It has been truly disapointing to have the Lower Valley Senior Group lead by Mike Howiett, Trinidad Silva and Howard Roesenbagh as well as Fruita Fitness Center’s Joe Miller’s public opposition coming out just weeks before the election.
During the planning process we heard nothing from the Lower Valley Senior group (seven of its 13 board members who do not live in Fruita). Many in the community spoke out in support of this great project, including Joe Miller as he sat in on the planning process even though he does not live in Fruita.
This recreation center initiative has had such overwhelming positive support that 70 percent of Fruita residents polled said they would support it in last Citizien Survey done by the city of Fruita in 2007.
So my question is this: Why would the citizens of Fruita let an outside group decide what is best for Fruita?
Please join me in voting “Yes” on Issue A when you receive your mail-in ballot. If you do not receive a ballot please call the city of Fruita at 858-3663 or stop in to the city building on Aspen and request one.
Fruita’s Community Recreation Center is for you, for me, for everyone!
