There have been letters to the editor, articles, and folks just saying that “Parties are the same.” I like to believe that there are still Republicans and Democrats. We, the voters, hold the key. We are ultimately responsible for our government.

We, the voters, need to return us to two parties, each separate and distinct. Each party has its true set of values. And it is time the voters choose their set of values. Then, vote for those candidates who are willing to step up to the plate and stand for and hold true to those values. We shall hold them responsible. If they do not vote as we have instructed them, vote them out next election.

If you are for lower taxes, smaller government, secure borders and no amnesty for illegal immigrants, you are a Republican. It is time Republicans vote to protect and preserve our Constitution — vote to return our precious rights to America’s own citizens — vote for a return to personal responsibility.

We must realize, it is not easy to stand for what is right. I would like to thank County Commissioners Janet Rowland and Craig Meis. They have not given in to the political correctness. They have made solid, honest decisions on difficult issues. Thank you to two caring commissioners.

Also, please recognize that if we are to have a representative voting for our, Mesa County’s, true needs and values, Laura Bradford will be our next representative for House District 55.

I disagree. This country is more in need now of at least a three party system, as Republicans and Democrats have both been lacking in their handling of the needs and desires of the general voting public. This country has suffered long enough under Republican leadership, and the Republicans are no longer the party of the people, as they used to be. The Democratic Congress has no real commitment to the will of the people, and have shown so because of the many times they have caved in to the Bush administration. It’s time for REAL change, the status quo is not working. Also, I’m in total disagreement with Laura Bradford to support our county’s values. Bernie Buescher has done an excellent job, and has represented the Western Slope well. Ms. Bradford is a one issue candidate, and she illustrates how the two party system polarizes the local voters, and doesn’t allow for any significant progress beacause of partisan policies. Vote with your own mind, and don’t be influenced just because someone has an (R) or a (D) following their name.

Roland, could you do us all a favor and list all the new taxes created since 1960, who proposed the new taxes and for what intended purpose, as well as which political party was in power at the time?

For instance, when the lifeless brain johnson discovered his administration was running out of money for all his new programs, he, and his lackeys in both houses of congress released ALL the accumulated funds in the SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT SYSTEM, and rolled it into the general fund.

If you take all the stupid stunts of all republican presidents and rolled the cost to the American People into one pile, it would not equal the damage done to the People than that one single act by corrupt democrats.

So, while I don’t mind your taking mindless shots at republicans, never forget that the democrats taught them how to ignore the People.

In the 1950’s there were few taxes that directly affected the American People.

Your moron johnson started the greed and corruption for everybody else to follow.

Reagan was the only President since then that has made an effort to rein in the UNCONSTITUTIONAL power grabs by both parties.

Try reading the 10th Amendment sometime, then justify 90% of the garbage the American Citizen has to deal with everyday now.

Read the post, Johnson. My point is that BOTH parties have responsibility for the messes we are dealing with today! You are a student of the constitution, goody. That’s not what I am speaking about! In your zeal to argue against the democrats, you don’t even take time to consider what you are reading. You seem to have all the time in the world, why don’t you list all that you are requesting, since you would argue about anything any one but YOU presents on this forum?! Oh, one thing I do know, this is JUST YOUR OPINION! One more thing, who ever said that I AM A DEMOCRAT?

Now roland, I would never accuse you of being a democrat.

You claimed the country has -”This country has suffered long enough under Republican leadership”-.

My point was you left out the other garbage.

I wholeheartedly agree, neither party gives a whit about the American People.

Had the Conservatives held control of the Republican Party, and the working American class retained control of the Democrat Party, this would be a Great Nation.

As it is, the country club republicans are a bunch of power hungry elitists that have no idea what to do with power when it comes their way.

The 1994 election giving control of both houses to the republicans, and their subsequent FAILURE to do anything good, like destroying the bloated democrat installed bureaucratic nightmares that were created port John F, Kennedy.

And why don’t I create the list I requested?

    Good question.

I could, but then neither you, nor anyone else would ever pay attention and learn from the education you (or they) would get.

How best to learn, from what someone else tells you, or what you learn from your own efforts to discover the truth?

    Now, are we friends again?

And I don’t just dislike the democrats.

I pretty much don’t like either of the socialist parties that have been running this Nation for about 35 years too long.

In her effusive praise of what she believe is a “true Republican”, Ms. Caskey alludes to “personal responsibility.” As is often the case in those using that mantra, it is used as a cover for evading one’s own. Everyone else should pick up the responsibilities we have in common while “I” am to be left to pursue all of “my” wants. That is usually, after all is said and done, what is left.
Ms. Caskey, apparently unable to move beyond that self-centeredness, also believes that public officials should do what “she” wants them to do. Obviously, she does not understand the concept of “representative democracy” or the difference between “democracy” and “mobocracy.” The lady may wish to withdraw from the public discourse for some time, that in order to acquire more understanding and less dogmatic belief.
As to Mr. Rowland and Mr. Meis, it is apparent that they are both afflicted with a “sense of superiority”, Ms. Rowland based upon her shallow views on society, and Mr. Meis upon his so-called “expertise” in one field. As a result, both were apparently unable to transition from the conduct of “personal business” to the conduct of “public business.” They, and Ms. Caskey, would do well to remember the quote: “If all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail.”
