Dear Editor,
Shame on The Daily Sentinel! The editorial entitled “Highway funding faces bumpy road” does nothing more than fuel the “them and us” mentality that does nothing to solve the problem of our deteriorating statewide transportation system. It also displays the shortsightedness of not being able to see past the end of one’s nose.
I beg to disagree with the Sentinel concerning I-70. I-70 is the economic lifeline for the entire state. It is not just a highway for skiiers from the Front Range. When I-70 closes the entire state suffers. Does anyone remember the bare shelves in the grocery stores a few years back?
Our transportation system is the single biggest asset owned by the citizen’s of Colorado. Our transportation system is used by each and every one of us from our birth to the grave. Our transportation system will be used by our children and grandchildren long after we are gone from this earth. The citizens of the state of Colorado deserve to know the condition of their asset and decide what to do about it.
It is totally counterproductive to inflame emotions of the state’s citizens by pitting the Front Range against the Western Slope. We can do far more working together to solve problems than going it alone and poking each other in the eye.
