Thank you to the kind man who rang our door bell a week ago to tell us our fence was on fire.
No, we were not burning vegetation along 31 Road in Clifton in the Eastbrook Subdivision adjacent to Lewis Wash. We again had our periodic visit from the as-yet-un-named youths who thinks its fun to start fires and run away for homeowners, Clifton Fire Department and Mesa County Sheriff’s office to respond to.
Guess it was too much of a temptation for our youth to throw a match on a dried ornamental grass along the wooden privacy fence, getting a thrill to see it go up in flames and ignite the fence.
The Lewis Wash ditch that runs parallel to 31 Road between Patterson and E-1/2 Road has for years seen its share of fires started by our youth. The last major fire was the week of July 4th, 2007.
Perhaps Mesa County Facilities and Parks Department, or whoever has jurisdiction over Lewis Wash, could clear the brush, along with help from homeowners, to make sure a home does not also go up in flames. So glad we were home this time.
