Regarding the response to additional members to Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, it sounds like Chicken Little is at it again. The chicken warns that a more balanced board, rather than one packed with energy industry toadies, will cause energy companies to flee the state and catastrophically increase our gas bills.

Get a grip, please! With all the energy resources in this state, it’s ridiculous to predict all the oil and gas extraction companies will pick up their marbles and move to Nebraska!

As far as gas and oil prices are concerned, they are set by the market. It has more to do with worldwide consumption, demand and military excursions than regulation (or lack thereof) in Colorado’s West Slope.

Our more serious concern must be what this under-regulated and under-supervised industry is doing to our environment. Remember, some of the results of this digging, drilling and off-gassing ends up in the Colorado River and in the air we breathe. If we do not supervise this notoriously slipshod industry, we will drink and breathe the results of lax oversight for generations to come.

Our policy regarding the energy industry must be thoughtful, long-range, and balanced if we wish to preserve our health and economic wellbeing in the Grand Valley.

I’m in favor of piping it directly into the governors office, with branch lines into the legislative offices.

Very well said, Cheryl. Altho my username denotes patience, on this subject we cannot afford to be patient or tolerant. We have to be more demanding to the energy industry and the officials that are delegated to protect our environment. Noting the recent “accidental” spills and speeding truck drivers losing control, obviously the oil and gas industry has not one tiny bit of concern for our environment. Their only concern is to ‘get in’, ‘get the product out’, and than ‘get out’. I don’t understand why people don’t get that! Research their past performances.

Yes, we have the resources, and yes, the country needs them. Believe me the oil and gas industry is not going to leave our State because we make some hard and fast rules!!! They will walk as close as they can to the line, but wherever we draw that line they will stop.
