The March 18 front-page story on Whitman Park reports that a Denver firm will be paid $33,500 to redesign the park so that the general public will use it. And when those Denver experts are finished, I suppose it will be some construction outfit from Denver or Salt Lake that receives the contract to upgrade the park.

It’s difficult to believe that the city of Grand Junction does not have experts qualified to redesign the park. But if that’s the case, aren’t there local architects with the expertise to redesign it?

It’s troubling to see local tax dollars spent elsewhere if there are local experts qualified to do the job. Even if the Denver firm had the lowest bid, it makes good economic sense to keep our tax dollars in the community.

Alas poor Eric, you miss the point again.

Yes, the city council knows beyond doubt that the local people are much too stupid to do anything right.

After all, they keep electing morons to the city council, never once have the votes in the city stood up and said “stop spending so much money on feel good, do-nothing projects, and act like responsible stewards of our money.”

Never have the voters stood up and said “stop the letting of construction projects that take years beyond what a normal company could do the job in, and allowing worse conditions after the construction period is over.”

So, yup, so far they are pretty much right on the money…
