Both John McCain and Dick Cheney went to Baghdad to see if the surge was working. They walked down the middle of the street in flack jackets in the middle of an entourage of soldiers, looked both ways, asked a few questions through interpreters, pronounced the surge a success, and fully expected intelligent people to believe them.

Getting a clear picture of what is going on behind closed doors in one house or building is impossible for the simple reason that you can’t see through solid walls, and we’re expected to believe McCain and Cheney were able to see through all the walls of a city with a population of 4 million. Give me a break.
