OK let’s get down to the bare facts. Let’s exclude political parties and the fact that we hate our Grand Junction City Council, Mesa County commissioners, the governor, state senators, house representatives and so and so on.
Here are the facts:
-We all drive cars.
- We all live in houses.
- We need gas and oil to run the cars and heat our houses.
- We depend WAY TOO MUCH on foreign sources for these resources.
So, we need to drill on our own soil (and stop whining about it) or go to other resources to run our cars and heat our homes.
Stop the political insanity of the “You’re wrong and we’re right” and the tree hugger mentality of “Our Earth is going away.”
Stop talking like a bunch of old ladies and do something about it. Come up with some answers or do something to make things better. But complaining about how the environment is going to be trashed by the oil-and-gas guys is a waste of time and is not going to help us get out of this mess. Let’s work together to find a solution instead of this whining political nonsense. I like the corn gas idea. Why not? We can grow that stuff out here like crazy.
Oh and by the way: The same people who blame our current administration for having to depend on foreign resources for oil and gas are the same people who do not want us to drill on U.S. soil so we don’t have to depend on it. Make up your minds. You cannot have your cake and eat it too.

If, by corn derived gas, you mean ethanol, that is not a solution. First of all, it takes almost as much energy to produce ethanol from corn as what you get out of it. Second, we are now seeing the impact of growing corn for use as ethanol feedstock in the rise in food prices. The fact of the matter is that the government subsidizes ethanol production in order to get the farm vote. That needs to stop. At least McCain understands that and is willing to stand up to the corn lobby. Most politicians will not.

Oh, I hate this…
I think I’m gonna be agreeable….
My biggest problem with McKainnedy is his penchant for going over and sitting down with the Socialists in the Senate, and figuring out ways to bypass the Constitution.
And then there’s the desire to grant automatic CITIZENSHIP to any, and all illegal aliens.
And I noticed the other day that the tree I planted several years ago is finally starting to grow…
I HUGGED it…. I’m so ashamed…..

Willis, I’m going to assume that, like me, you are a Republican. First, I’m sure you realize that your comment that McCain wants to make EVERY illegal a citizen, without any conditions, is a gross exageration. Second, I’m sure you would not want Mr. Obama to be the next President. Frankly, while I do not agree with many of McCain’s positions, I am convinced that he is the only Republican who ran in this election cycle with any chance at winning the White House. I certainly prefer him, by a wide margin, than any liberal Democrat. And when it comes to liberal Democrats, Obama takes the gold medal. So I will vote for McCain as the best choice by a wide margin.

I don’t see anything wrong with using our natural resources. But there is no reason to give these companies a free pass to do what they want, how they want. They do not give a fudge if we have clean water 20 years from now. What is so wrong about making them accountable for their actions? It is not whining, it is simply self-preservation. We all know that when the gas runs out or becomes too difficult to extract profitably, these companies will pack up and be gone without a glance back. Why not make them keep the place reasonably clean? Seriously!

Well…
I was a Republican in the 60’s.
And when Reagan ran, I was a Republican.
Since the republican party has moved to the same position kruschev held in the 60’s I really am not too proud of the party.
McKainnedy is only the lesser of the evils presented.
There are a lot of people imminently more qualified to LEAD this country.
All that is left is corrupt individuals that have paid their homage to whatever powers lead them by their noses.
Again, back to the 60’s, John McCain was a hero.
Since then he has managed to use up his hero status, instead of living up to it.
Isn’t it amazing how corrupting politics can be?
John Kennedy was a war hero, and lived up to that level until his death. probably caused by his strength of character and refusal to knuckle under to somebody somewhere.
But, I digress….
When there is no choice, you get stuck with whatever is left.
An interesting thought, America, lead by the bottom of the integrity pile…

Mr. Braley, you completely forget the possible of alternative energy sources. We can not depend on foreign countries for our energy needs AND not tear up our landscape and pollute the environment by using the abundant sun and wind energy Colorado is naturally blessed with. And for me, the big bonus of solar energy is that I can OWN it. It makes the consumer energy independent, and not at the mercy of energy companies either here or abroad. And you’re protected from rising energy prices. It does require an initial investment, but the payback is definitely there.

Has anyone ever asked themselves the following;
“If all theses “natural resources” such as oil and gas belong to the People (that would be you and me), how come we don’t get a bigger cut when we sell it to xcel energy?”
Or
“Why are the People of the State of Colorado being billed for “interstate” shipping costs for natural gas?”
I asked the second question of a person who should have a clue, and his response was, “Because all the natural gas produced in Colorado is shipped out, and you are getting billed for gas from Wyoming.”
I didn’t have a sign to give him at the time…..
Personally, I think the price of solar cells and panels are deliberately being held high to keep a lot of people from switching and damaging the utility companies.

Willis, not everything is a conspiracy. We live in a capitalistic system. If there is a buck to be made by selling solar energy equipment as an alternative to oil and gas, it would be in the market now. Fact of the matter is that it requires government subsidies to make them profitable. And, even with the subsidies, the payout on the capital investment is still questionable. It is mostly sold to folks who want to feel like they’re doing something to help the environment.

Oh, it’s not a conspiracy.
It’s greed.
If the middle men would cut their profit margins in half, they could sell 10 times the number of units.
I have been keeping an eye on the Chinese manufacturing data, and the prices being charged per watt cannot be justified by any other word.
Now, if I could afford to bring in the minimum amount, triple my cost and overhead, I could still save the average consumer an awful lot of money.
Installation would be their responsibility.
However, I do not have the facilities to receive, nor store the material.
Nor am I inclined to help dismantle the American manufacturing base by importing stuff that can be built here.
That’s why I seldom do wally world, and if the same item is available as imported or domestic, I choose the domestic, unless it says “proudly made by union workers”…
I don’t have a problem with the workers, just the unions.
(I just know I’m gonna get hate mail for that)….
