In response to Rick Wagner’s cheap shot at Rich Alward and Tresi Houpt in his column, “West Slope nominees offer reason to worry about our energy industry”, it needs to be said that the nominees have been accepted by the Legislature after some badgering by Republicans. The COGCC rule-making activity was authorized by the Colorado Legislature. Some of us think that the Legislature intended to level the playing field by requiring the energy industry to clean up when the drilling and fracing is done — to render the “rape and run” that characterizes some companies in the industry an attitude and activity that will no longer be tolerated.

Wagner and other industry advocates should wait to see the changes proposed by COGCC. There will be plenty of opportunity to comment. The Legislature will respond to the proposals. The energy lobby has been intimately involved stakeholders in the rule-making work; the energy lobby is capable of representing itself and has bought plenty of help (for example, Bush’s BLM, Penry, Meis and dittos). Who is representing responsible energy development?

Wagner knows how to deliver the hyperbole. However, when it came time for him to back up his assault on Alward and Houpt, his apoplexy could not disguise his impotence.

After claiming the sky is falling, he goes on the tout Alward’s academic and intellectual achievements. He notes that Alward is pleasant and well-spoken. When he quotes one of Alward’s responses to Sen. Brophy, he uses an example that shows that Alward will not pre-judge issues that might come before him as a COGCC Commissioner. Wagner claims Alward is antagonistic towards the industry but omits mention of Alward’s financial ties to this same industry since these facts would destroy his arguments.

I don’t know about you, but Wagner’s column convinced me that Alward has the qualities I want a commissioner to have. By extension, I bet Houpt is probably excellent too.

As an attorney, one assumes that Herr Vagner knows well that conflict of interst is not someone having a position or opinion, but making decisions on a matter that one has a direct financial tie to, such as Commisar Meis.

  3. Willis_Leon_Johnson

    “Herr Vagner”?

Now Oliver appears on the scene.

Jumping in with both feet to show his inability to communicate as an adult.

“Commisar Meis”? Is that supposed to be commisar, or commissar?

Name calling the only trick you know?

I’ll leave the “interst” word alone.

I know how to use a spell checker, but sometimes my voice recognization software doesn’t quite catch the nuances of the mechanical driven voice thingy…

Too bad liberals haven’t caught on to the new fangled spelling things…

    All:

Oil and gas-we have to have it. Regulatory controls to ensure public health and safety as extraction activities occur-we have to have it. Profitability for risk capital successully invested in business ventures-the model for economic exchange.

Claims by both the extraction industries and supporters/workers employed in this cricitcal industrial sector that if regulatory controls become too excessive that the the companies are going to pack it up a go elseware at $80.00+ per barrel-unsubstantiated if asserted–naive if believed.

I am not against profit it but if what we are asking is firms that are making 140 billion USD gross pre-tax per year to pay a bit more for common sense regulatory controls during the extraction/processing stages then please quantify the objections.

Owning property in the valley I benefit from a strong industry-driven rental market. Living in northern Europe I have seen working and replicable models for industrial development with sustaining envirnomental quality. Writing to you today from northen Irak I really believe that places like this could benefit from the insightful and ominiscient understanding that Mr. Willis Leon Johnson so ably provides readers–it sure seems that Mr. Johnson has the time to do so. Hint to Willis-get a ticket and fix this place up in addition to the Grand Valley. The world needs more thinkers like yourself-have a nice day!

    Willis:

Yes you my man. The unique combination of skills that you could bring to almost any problem zone is bordering on the amazing. Let’s list the skill sets that you could bring to the table-shall we?

One, You have an above-average work output-witness your over-the-top production level on just this one comment-orient, regional paper website.

Two, you obviously know more than everyone else about every subject brought to the table.

Three, you argue primarily from position based on ideology and regularly discount the facts to make your, powerfully weak and inept, arguments.

Four, you seem to have a disporportionally large amount of free time on your hands and not a lot of close followers that you can spout off to on a direct, one-on-one basis and share your insights. Are you a retired US Federal employee?

With all of these qualities that you shamelessly display on a regular basis we really need to export your skills and capabilities to somewhere that really desparately needs them. Can you spell I-R-A-K? Sure I knew you could! Now go run on down to the travel agent and book yourself a flight out of here and provide your services to some people who think and act just like you-Iraqi leaders. The people of the Grand Valley will honor your commitment to service and sacrifice.

You can thank me IV Flogging-your-Bottom on your safe return. Inshallah and Good day!

    Nicely put, Flog.

    Aww IV, yer so sweet.

Most folks just get mad and whine.

    You on the other hand….

    Well….

    Pooh! I’m speechless

(translated into normal conversation= why bother, it’s a waste of virtual ink…)

    Willis:

First off-Happy Easter to you and your family. I wish you all the best.

While I do believe that we are in the early stages of a constructive on-line dialogue I am hoping that we can set some conversational ground rules. I have noted that in your reply to my last comment that you affectionately, or perhaps perjoratively, refered to me as “IV”.

Please note that I think that it is premature for you to just assume that you can address me as “IV”. The name is IM Flogginbottoms IV (spoken as …the 4th). Calling me IV is just inappropriate. I trust that you will abide by this small request and I will refrain from addressing you as Wil, or Ill or Lis, or Leo, or On, or John, or Son or any other incorrect title.

Maybe if this on-line conversation works out I may agree to you addressing me as Mr. Floggin or IM–but we are a ways off from that end state at this moment. Thanks.

Now onto your last comments. After reading the following excerpt:

    Pooh! I’m speechless
(translated into normal conversation= why bother, it’s a waste of virtual ink…)

I am hoping that your not just going to take your QWERTY-keyboard club/toy and go home. If so I would be disappointed in you and wonder if you really have the intellectual stones to try to have objective, non-opinonated, materially factual discussions on the subjects that seem to take up some much of your free time. You never did answer my inquiry if you are a retired US Federal employee?

Since I don’t get mad and whine at your arguments but attempt to delve deeper into the discussion, the facts, and the logic system you use in developing your Political Science 101 positions/opinions I am at a loss as to why you won’t play nice in return.

Your not the psuedo-intellectual bully type are you? Suffering from an intellectual inferiority complex, or living in a pre-HUD certified single-wide somewhere off of Highway 50 with a broadband connection and plenty of time?

Even if you are I would hope that we engage in some meanful discussions on issues far more critical and germane to the future of the region/country/world than comments on dogs and such. Why don’t we discuss energy policy and sustaining energy production systems-a key issue on local/regional/national/international scales.

Now Willis come on and play straight and nice here. I don’t want to conclude that you are really an offish, argumentative, know-it-all bully who has put the dim back into dimwitted!

In closing, have you purchased you ticket to Irak yet?

    Yours,

    IM Floggin-your ever reddening-Bottoms IV

    PS: Have a nice day!

  12. Willis_Leon_Johnson

Sorry, I thought IV was you IQ.

    My mistake.

I can’t take my QWERTY keyboard and go home, I are home.

    I always play nice.

I’ll buy my ticket to “Irak” as soon as they let me make the places where the terrorists call home flat and black.

Now, I’ll give you a clue about what I really think of your “reasoning abilities”…

Wagner’s attack on new COGCC members.

That’s the title of this thread.

Make your connection to your personal attack on me to the subject of this thread.

You have nothing to add, or discuss that pertains to this thread.

Thus you are irrelevant to the conversation.
