While snowbirding in Corpus Christy, Texas, I noticed that no one was running red lights. Later, I found out that the city had installed cameras at most major intersections and violaters would be mailed a ticket. Just maybe Grand Junction could learn something from another city.

    Paul,

Some time back several Texas cities installed the red light cameras.

But before you think it’s a good idea, consider how they work there.

The camera snaps a picture, the picture goes to a private company who in turns bills you for the fine and any related costs they feel to tack on.
Upon receiving your payment, the private company forwards a small percentage of your payment to the appropriate jurisdiction.

If you feel that you would like to go to court and dispute the bill for any reason, frget any such foolish notion.

It is no longer a traffic offense, but a civil billing.

If you choose not to pay the bill, they will turn the bill over to collections, ruin your credit, etc.

You do not have any rights to contest the validity of the bill.

Red light cameras, like most other new technologies can be tampered with.

Now, are you real sure the Corpus Christy plan is a good thing?

I think I am going to sit on the corner of 12th and Patterson with my video camera. Scratch that, I am not THAT crazy. However I do feel that this intersection needs some attention. It seems it has turned into a game. Who can race through that yellow arrow? Three cars had gone through a yellow, and because I have an amazing ability to wait my turn, I stopped. (imagine that folks… ) After two loud honks, I looked in my rear view to find a very disgrunted gentlemen … appearently he was determined to make that light and I had ruined his day. Silly me

    Wrong perspective Jami.

He honked his horn as a way of thanking you for saving his life.

He probably realized that, had he continued through the intersection on a red light, somebody may have slammed into the side of his car, killing himself and any passengers.

I also, would like to take this opportunity to thank you for keeping another traffic fatality from appearing on the front pages of the local papers.

*mouth dropped open* why willis! Thanks! I argue with you entirely too much to deserve such nice comments. I feel the same way you do. I try to remember that when I cant get around the slow person. They could be saving my life.

SLOW DOWN PEOPLE!!! Its Junction, no we dont have the traffic of Denver, But our streets were not built by Nascar either!

    Good day!
