Reader Betty Taylor stated in her letter to the editor that Mike Parker “has allowed himself to be taken in by the rhetoric that our food costs are directly related to corn being used to make E85.” She claims that biofuel production does not affect the cost of our food. I believe she is wrong.
The price my bakery pays for a 50-pound bag of wheat flour has doubled in less than a year and everyone in the food industry knows that much of that increase is, in fact, due to corn being used as biofuels. It may not be the only reason but is is a very large part of the reason.

i find it amusing that tho people are starting to complain about fuel costs for their personal vehicles, they seem to forget that as prices go up, so do the freight charges…as an owner/operator, i’ve had to raise my rates twice in the last 4 months in order to stay afloat…com panies aren’t going to allow a reduction of their profits, so they naturally pass that hike onto the end consumer, so yeah, you guys are going to pay more and more as prices continue to rise
