It was disgusting to see the anti-war demonstrators get coverage on the front page of the March 31 edition of The Daily Sentinel.
Yes, public protests are a right that we all have in this great country of ours, but we should consider the consequences. This is the sort of thing that encourages the terrorists and prolongs the war. This is no different than the hometown crowd at a sporting event cheering for the visiting team. It encourages the visiting team while demoralizing the home team.
The protester carrying the “HANG BUSH FOR TREASON” sign should have been arrested. There is a law against threatening the president of the United States.
War is hell. I served as an infantry machine gunner and was wounded in the Korean War. Some of the men in my platoon and other friends were among the more than 36,600 Americans killed in that war, which lasted 37 months.
Although I hate war, I strongly believe that the war in Iraq was justified. Early withdrawal of our troops might very well lead to the worst blood bath the world has ever known and more terrorist attacks in our country.

I would probably agree that the “hang Bush” sign was over the line, but there is still a right to protest, and, in this case, reasons for protesting.
Just as you have your right to believe that this war is justified.
All due respect to your honorable service in the past, I don’t think that “disgusting” is the appropriate term to be used here, however.

Congratulations Jim. You have correctly identified the media coverage of the anti-war demonstrations as disgusting, and by doing so, you have been selected to receive a prize, described below. Here are some facts that you should know. KKCO did contact a local Iraq vet to balance their coverage. Kudos to them. Now to your special prize. On the way to you is a beautiful 8X10 glossy photo of a staff writer, Sharon Sullivan, from the Free Press, participating in a “peace” rally at 4th and Rood, in GJ. This highly prized collectors item depicts with outstanding clarity and beautiful detail her protest sign, which reads “Help stop mad cowboy disease”. This photo may represent the genesis of the biased journalism we now enjoy. Truly, a picture is worth a thousand words. I am sure it will become a family keepsake.

Colorado Wolverines thank you for your service to our great nation. Your analysis is spot on.

I think disgusting is a fairly accurate term for this particular set of circumstances.
And yes, there is a RIGHT to protest.
A rather large number of people in this country fought for this RIGHT. A lot of people fought and died for this RIGHT.
However, front page coverage is not a right.
I fully agree that anytime some people have a problem with any foreign policy, war, tax, regulation, etc, they SHOULD protest in the most effective, lawful manner.
Holding the “protest” here serves no purpose other than the hope of getting their pictures in the paper.
Now, if they really want their protest to have an impact, they should go to Tehran, or Damascus, or any other middle eastern, terror supporting regime.
But that would be scary, and they might get hurt, better leave going into bad, dangerous places to the military.
THAT IS THEIR JOB ISN’T IT? they cry pitifully into the night.
Too bad the Daily Sentinel couldn’t find better news to present on the front page, and relegate this to page 87.

the problem is that our local papers have started leaning left with all the californians that have invaded our fine state…they do what they know will sell papers, and if that means catering to the local liberals, that’s what they’re gonna do

ok first of all, i would like to say people who like killing for money are disgusting! the protest was a huge success, and the reason we made the front page was because we had the right, and just think… mabey we were on there, cause WERE RIGHT??? this whole war was basically started because sadam wanted to change the currency for oil from dollars to euros. The vets that came out said it how it was. Get all the macho brainwash out of your heads and see clear! quick! before bush drains our country on a usless war!

Today our local paper of record, this very one in fact, had as its columnists Gary Harmon–being his usual unintelligible self; Rick Wagner, confusing history with ideology, getting in his snark along the way; James Ambrose doing his best to spin away pending environmental catastrophe. Please explain, RedNeck, how this is ‘leaning left’?

“People who like killing for money”? This discussion is not about abortion.
“The protest was a success”? Define success. Is it defined as a bunch of looney whiners standing around moaning, then it was a wailing success.
Mabey? Perhaps you meant ‘maybe’?
WERE RIGHT? ‘Were’ is past tense. “We’re” is the contraction for we are.
We really didn’t expect you to come out and admit to being wrong.
“this whole war was basically started because sadam wanted to change the currency for oil from dollars to euros.”
Now that’s a new one. Interesting, five years before anybody brings up the realities of the situation.
And all this time we thought it was “blood for oil”, or any of a dozen other cutesy little labels.
“Get all the macho brainwash out of your heads”. Excellent advice, follow it.
What, pray tell, is a “usless war”?
Still in college are you?
It shows.
But, since you are in school studying, what are you studying for?
You obviously hold all the wisdom of the ages, and know everything there is to know.

littlewing,
Still trying to figure out if that name is gender specific. Does it refer to a small appendage, or did someone cut off your tree of life and split the stump? Just what in the hell would you know about killing for fun or profit? Just how many generations is it going to take for you “peace types” to realize that your pacifism is what starts wars, and your activism only prolongs the killing? The best defense is a good offense. Now there is some real world wisdom. When was the last time you saw someone go out and pick a fight with the biggest, baddest biker in the bar? Ever heard of a Marine being mugged? If your goal is to change human nature, you would be better off to try genetic engineering. If your goal is to stop the killing, consider this. Win one, and you avoid three. Start thinking for yourself. Try to remember, the meek shall inherit the earth, but only after we are through with it. Don’t believe me, look it up. It is listed under rule 7.62 Nato.

I want to throw up at littlewing. okies. bake your cookies. blow sunshine up a terroritst rear end because it makes you feel better. When they behead you because you are a “western infidel” who refuses to convert to Islam, do I have your permission to go to war?
Do me a favor and try to find some authentic arabic coverage of the nation. What we will see, my dearm, is children screaming about murdering others, holding guns. You will see thier childrens shows which glamorize selfless acts of terrorism. They are breeding the kids to destroy us, and thats just the kids!

littlewing, I need your address for either of two reasons, so I can contact your neighbor, or possibly actually move next door to you…
I have an urge to put a billboard on the house next to yours.
“My next door neighbor
wants to ban all guns.
Their home is not armed.
To respect their opinion,
I promise not to use my guns
to protect them.”
Sleep well…

Read Dennis Herzog’s “View From The Newsroom” dated April 1st. Does it bring any poster in particular to mind?
“Patriots” complaining about people’s right to civil protest seriously sounds like confusion and paranoia to me.
Quite a bit of self-righteousness going on with these posts.

Morning Roland! I didn’t get a chance to thank you for unlumping me with everyone else. That was very nice of you.
Its not paranoia. Can’t we all just get along? Some of us believe there is still very serious danger. We want to arm ourselves to protect our families, as well as yours if need be. I don’t see why people insist that this is a bad idea. I am not asking you to arm yourself, just don’t tell me it wrong that I do. I could be mistaken but doesnt the second amendment say something about that?
Paranoia, denial. Tomatoe …. you know what I am sayin. I want peace just as bad as you do. I hate war, I hate losing our Americans. I have just come to accept the fact that others do not feel like that. Conflict over religon, resources, culture will always be… has always been. I will never stop looking for a …. “sensible” solution, but humans are not peaceful by nature.

I am in agreement, Jami. I never brought up the 2nd amendment issue, and, by the way, I do believe in arming myself.
It’s just that I still believe that this “war” is, and has been, totally mishandled. Some of these posters insist that if you don’t agree with their ideas, that you are not a “patriot”. That argument, to me, is over-used, and simply illogical.
The majority of posters are here for the “discourse”, and I’m sure that they appreciate having a venue for that. It’s those others (that continue to attack, insult and belittle those who don’t express the same ideas) that misuse this forum, and it’s wrong.
It’s not the “American way”, and I think that it diminishes any prospect of sharing ideas and, possibly, coming to some sort of middle ground.
(I fully expect those posters to continue the attacks here shortly).

See roland? You can come up with something we can agree on.
“It’s just that I still believe that this “war” is, and has been, totally mishandled.”
If yer gonna fight a war, you might just as well fight the war instead of pussy footing around getting your soldiers killed.
I didn’t bring up the Second Amendment. Who did?
Who said yer not a “patriot”? Not me.
You just seem to not understand that facts over rule wishes and wants.
