“Student of the Week” Corey Woods “credits his family” for his accomplishments and says, “They have really supported me.” Alas, Corey’s parents are not identified anywhere in the article!
I’m sorry to see that The Daily Sentinel has decided to stop listing the names of these students’ parents. Parents are an integral and vital reason why most of these students are outstanding.
I understand if a student prefers to omit his or her parents’ names for personal reasons. But otherwise, the Sentinel should resume listing the names of the parents, not only because it gives credit where due, but it also helps the Sentinel remember that it is still, at heart, a “community” newspaper where the readership still says, “I know that student’s parents.”
