Sir,
I am sorry I did not see your letter until just a few moments ago. I know how hard ti must have been for you to tell this wonderful story, and then have to read the hateful things that some people have said. It is an evil thing that clutches the hearts of our country. Oh that it would be that they just did not know what they do. That they did not know the depth of their injury. For in that there could be redemption. If they were to know the loss of their only son, of all they had or ever would have. The loss of their most cherished love. And then, to have thought the things they have said, then their soul would be tarnished beyond repair.
Forgive them, for we must believe that they know not what they do, for the sake of our soul.

I didn't have a problem with the main point of Wally's letter....he can wax rhapsodic about private school children waving flags for a political figure, making a short visit for fundraising purposes, all he wants.
My problem was with his (or rather, his lovely wife's) suggestion that anyone who disagrees with him should be shipped out to somewhere that will imprison or kill them. That was pretty sad, too.

It's sad to see you all jump on Wally for the comments you disagree with and miss the main point of his letter - which is to applaud the behavior of young children. How nice that there was exemplary behavior to report and Wally went out of his way to compliment them for it.

An honest history lesson would be one where school kids are released to observe the motorcade procession when Bush, Cheney, et al, are hauled to a Supermax (or GitMo or Abu Ghraib) facility for retirement.

Isn't it time to start telling your kids the truth, instead of flag-waving & bible-thumping?

"There is probably a very important reason why public school kids are not able to witness live history but I’ll be damned if I understand it."

Uh, perhaps geography had something to do with it. The VP funding raising trip went from the airport to the area around Holy Family school Last I checked there were no public school buildings along that route.

Which is worse, somebody dupposedly intersted in history/civics but does not understand simple geography; or, a political right wing extremist willing to miss use school kids or religious or secular school to make a 2-bit point.

Maybe the kids at Holy Family or Tope Elementary (maybe the closest district elementary school) could give "Wally" a lesson in geography AND freedom of speech.

Okie, dokey, then, Wally; everyone who disagrees with you and your lovely wife should be sent to a foreign country to be killed or imprisoned.
The Founding Fathers would be proud. I'm sure that's exactly what they had in mind when they wrote the First Amendment.
