In his letter to the editor published April 14, Richard Stover proposes “a reality check … regarding Iraq.” His first “check” is that all early bombings were by Sunni individuals in Shiite areas. Shiites then tattled to the United States and our troops took out Sunnis. Sunni retaliation then began. No al-Qaida were mentioned. His “point” is really, in my words, “they all look alike” so you don’t know who is who.
His second “check” is that, “Until around six months ago … out of the nowhere, al-Qaida appeared.” His “point,” again, is “it’s impossible to tell them apart.”
His third “check” is that “the number of refugees has doubled since the so-called surge.” From what to what?
I would have much more faith in his “reality” if there were sources quoted. Facts must appear somewhere and be verified. Can we verify each of his assertions from what is presented? I think not.

Mr. Stover needs no “facts” to state his position.
“Facts” only get in the road, and as other extrrememly well educated persons on this site have repeatedly stated, “facts, even those basedvon history don’t mean anything if they support the more conservative viewpoint.”
One does wonder, how many Doctorates does the most proflic writer of liberal dogma possess?
After hie self proclaimed 40 years of “studying history” and not having learned anything about history, I’m curious what educational education institution would issue any degree to such an unkowledgeable person in any field.
