Even a closet hippie like myself has to admit, this sounds like a press release from J. Salazar's office. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for some public input into such a closure. Public lands deserve public discussion.

Misrepresentation of the proposed Dominguez North Special Management area is business as usual for the local environmental minds.

Also as usual they are taking the back door approach to close off 12,500 acres to multiple use. Such a closure should involve the public. Ken Salazar's office, controled by the Western Colorado Congress, is proposing to close this area with the strike of a pen upon passage of the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area.

This separate 12,500 acre area deserves to have management actions of the yet to be appointed citizen advisory council, BLM and the public at large. any other method is wrong, sneaky and underhanded.

You are missing the point Chad.

Salazars office is trying to create a defacto Wilderness Area by closing 12,500 acres to multiple use, called the Dominguez Special Management Area. Instead of involving the public and the yet to be appointed advisory council, he intends to close it with the stroke of a pen upon passage of the bill for establishment of the NCA.

To close off the Dominguez North Special Management Area with the stoke of a pen upon the bill passage is creating a defacto Wilderness Area. This idea did not recieve public concensus during the public meeting activity last fall. Any restrictions in this area should be done through the planning process involving the yet to be appointed advisory council and public input.
