It has been quite interesting to note the reference to “intelligence” in the Community.GJSentinel.com site. It is obvious that everyone wants to be considered intelligent, and more intelligent than the others. And some claim that their intelligence has been insulted.

In all of those, apparently not a single one has ever gone to a good dictionary, be it Webster’s or Oxford, to ascertain the true meaning of “intelligence.” Had they done so, they might have learned that intelligence means “capacity” to learn and comprehend. In no way does it mean that such capacity has been used, or used wisely. Neither does it mean that the individual is “educated” or qualified to speak on any or all subjects upon which they would express themselves.

It is all too obvious, at least to those who are observant, that some, because they have a college degree in one area, believe that they know everything about everything. It would seem that if they were at all “intelligent” and “educated” they would long ago have come to the realization that such is not the case.

But, that might require more of them than can be expected, a recognition that we all have great gaps in our education, no matter our concentration.

To quote a Clint Eastwood movie line: “A man’s got to know his limitations.”

Take it from one who has see it up close - at least in the area of liberal arts, there is absolutely no valid correlation between level of education and level of intelligence.

There certainly has been a number of claims of superior intelligence.

Should I do some ‘copy & paste”?

Uhm..go with your strengths, I guess.

“There certainly has been a number of claims of superior intelligence.” The humble Mr. Johnson, however, would never make such claims.

This reminds me of the study that determined that the less someone knows about a subject, the more likely they are to overestimate how much they know about that subject.

It is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence.

Everyone will eventually rise to their level of incompetence. Some are already there.

True Kelly, and some are still sinking to find their level.
