Anatomy proves intelligent design
Thanks to Trisha Yeager for her insightful idea of having a column/essay discussing evolution vs. intelligent design. Although I am neither evolutionist, scientist or theologian, I would like to suggest some research be done on none other than the human rib cage.
In the biblical account of Creation (Genesis, Chapters 1-3), we find that the rib cage plays an important part in proving what God created.
Adam was the first created human and because he was left alone after the assignment of naming all the animal couples, God did minor surgery on him and removed a rib from his side. Around this rib, God built a helpmate named Eve. Down through the ages we females have been carrying around the extra rib. So that’s where that extra weight comes from?
Truth is, we’re all wonderfully built. That’s what Psalm 139 states about every created person. Every person is precious in God’s sight and he has a plan for each and every one of us.
So, all the Darwinists, atheists and anyone else who has a problem with creation, be reminded that you, too, are wonderfully made whether you like to admit it or not.
Medical technology should easily confirm the “extra rib” truth by x-raying the rib cages of both human male and female along with x-rays of a monkey couple. The human female x-ray will show that extra rib. It will be enlightening to get the results published in the suggested column.
Sounds like so much monkey business, huh? Let us not be so open minded that our brains fall out. The truth is simple and trying to disprove God is like going against high tide with a push broom.

Atheists should reflect on their freedoms
How has a sentence so simple as Amendment I to the U.S. Constitution caused so much controversy? A government body that chooses to invoke the blessing of deity prior to conducting business has nothing to do with legislation “respecting an establishment of religion.”
The Western Colorado Atheists say that such invocation makes advocates of their own doctrine (call it what it is) feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. Why, in a republic that guarantees the freedom of an individual to choose whether or not he or she wishes to participate, would anyone feel uncomfortable being in the presence of an opposing system of beliefs?
Council members who participate in the invocation are not forced to be involved — they choose to. Why should those who choose to be involved in something have to fear “offending” those who choose not to be involved? Why, I ask, are so many Americans convinced that they have the right to be always comfortable, ever welcome and perpetually pleased?
I believe that the Grand Junction City Council, as well as any government in America, has the right to invoke a blessing if they believe it will aid them in their task of governing and if they, as a group, choose to do so. If they do not have such a choice, has their freedom not been unfairly limited? Instead of feeling unwelcome or uncomfortable the next time the City Council bows their collective head, perhaps the WCA members should reflect on how fortunate they are to live in a society that guarantees each individual a choice to believe or not.

Men and women have the same number of ribs.

Ms. Guthrie again misses the point. It is not a matter of disproving a “deity” or “god”. In order to attempt to disprove something, one must first make the assumption that there is something to “disprove”; i.e. not true. The real challenge in this entire so-called “debate” is that some wish to build an entire system, theocrats include a systme of “civil” laws based on some thing or “being” that they cannot prove even exists. (Republican candidate advocating changing U.S. law to conform to god’s law) They may believe, yes. That is their choice. But, can they present empirical proof, that there is such a being? No, they cannot. How then can one presume to know what such a mythical creature “thinks” and what it really has as standards? All who are truly honest and logical about it will have to admit that it is an impossibility. And if that is not possible, why then ask, or even demand that others behave according to such standards, standards that no human beign is even capable of knowing? If they are not capable of knowing then they have to be “made by men, do they not? While such may be difficult to comprehend by the “true believers”, it is true nonetheless.

At first I thought that Lydia Guthrie was writing tongue-in-cheek with an ironical slant. Can she possibly be serious with this rib business?
“Most humans have twelve sets of ribs, but 8 percent of us have a thirteen set, just like chimpanzees and gorillas. This is a remnant of our primate ancestry: We share common ancestors with chimps and gorillas, and the thirteen set of ribs has been retained from when our lineage branched off six million years ago.”
—Michael Shermer, Why Darwin Matters: The Case Against Intelligent Design (Times Books, 2006), p. 18.
Males and females do not differ with respect to the number of ribs as has been noted. Comparative anatomy is a science which includes some of the best evidence for the principles of evolution.

Arabian horses have one less vertebrae than all other horses. Maybe they are the chosen ones of the equine world.

Ms. Guthrie’s argument for intelligent design in “Anatomy proves Intelligent Design” is pure nonsense because it begins with an unproven premise.
“In the biblical account of Creation (Genesis, Chapters 1-3), we find that the rib cage plays an important part in proving what God created.
Adam was the first created human…”
There is no proof that “God” created anything or that “Adam” was the first created human.
Her premise is unproven and therefore her conclusions are unproven, just like the entire Book of Genesis.

I really don’t make this stuff up folks.
” There is no proof that “God” created anything or that “Adam” was the first created human. ”
Likewise, there is no proof that he did not.
Nor is there any proof that God does not exist.
Such a quandary you present for yourself.

Sugarfoot: “Ms. Guthrie’s argument for intelligent design in “Anatomy proves Intelligent Design” is pure nonsense because it begins with an unproven premise.”
The Intelligent Design folks who know anything at all about biology (and there are precious few of these) must have winced when they read Ms. Guthrie’s letter. As I pointed out above her whole notion about ribs in males and female humans is just dead wrong. It has been known for hundreds of years that human males and females have the same number of ribs. This kind of ignorance does more harm to the anti-evolutionist’s cause than just about anything you or I could point out. I hope she keeps posting.

I really don’t know about ribs in men and women, but I can tell you one thing that has been demonstrated over and over on these many threads.
A teenager has a hundred times more courage than all these age challenged, so called “intellectuals”, who haven’t realized yet that their tenure was wherever they taught and does not insure they can’t be fired in the real world.

Willis-I love you and agree with everything you say. Jesus is Lord.
Now that I’ve fed your ego with some Pablum,it’s time for you to toddle off and lurk around a manure pile somewhere and let the “nice” people play in a clean sandbox with toys supplied by FAO Schwartz.

So, sugarfoot has accomplished the nearly impossible task of cut&paste from the “hey liberals’ forum to this thread.
So can I sweetiefoot.
” Hey, you said you weren’t gonna talk to me no more?
And (to slip into immature mode to get to your level), yer sandbox is only clean ’cause the BBB done came in, gathered up all the tootsie rolls, and packaged them for you for a naptime snack. ”
Let us know when you have something intelligent to report from the BBB.
