Elections are coming up and now the latest shell game to enhance candidates anti-tax “creds” is being proposed.
County Commissioners Meis and Rowland, who seek re-election, egged on by their mentor, state Sen. Josh Penry, are considering spending “available” county funds to support District 51 school building needs to lessen the amount of a school bond issue sure to be put before voters in November.
If this scheme becomes a reality you can bet the two incumbents will use this trickery as an indication as to how they are on the side of taxpayers in reducing the costs of government. Are we to believe that the money under consideration as “available” represents money beyond the needs of our county government? Our roads and bridges are in questionable shape and our Sheriff’s department is woefully undermanned, just to point out two places where the “available” money should be used.
Commissioner Acquafresca is correct when he says we already have a structure in place to deal with our school district’s needs.
Once again, Sen. Penry and his two buddies are selling local voters’ intelligence and attention short in playing games with reality in their relentless grasping to gain and maintain power. The Terrible Threesome continue to try to convince voters that there actually can be a free lunch and the Tooth Fairy will contribute generously to the cost of the people’s government. Will Laura Bradford somehow find a way to insert herself into this as well?

Is this the same District 51, and the same slate of County Commissioners who provided “funds” to Mesa State? As I recall it was District 51 that did give that institution approximately one million for a sports and entertainmen complex. How much did Mesa County give to the institution? Is Mesa State College now becoming another “local taxing authority”?
