Did anyone else notice a distinct pattern in the Colorado legislators who
voted for Senate Bill 200 “The Tim Gill Bathroom Bill?” Of the 58 who voted for this
frightening piece of legislation, 57 are Democrats.
I say it’s time for a change in our government. Vote Republican in November.
Let’s clean (the) house.

Once again Democrats have demonstrated their ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. By trying to impose their liberal agenda, they have alienated a greater portion of their base. It appears that no one from the Democratic party was considering the effect of this nonsensical legislation on the greater portion of the female population. It is exactly this type of glaring omission that has cost the Democratic party seats in government, and this type of thinking is rooted in the belief that American voters will embrace change for the sake of change without consideration of the unintended consequences.

Ms. Barker/A-P - Let me ask you the following questions:
- Where did transgender people go to the bathroom before Senate Bill 200 was passed? Answer: The same place we all do.
- Has Senate Bill 200 really changed anything? Answer: Not that anyone can tell. Even Focus on the Family has admitted that nothing has changed.
- Have there been any reported problems since passage of Senate Bill 200? Answer: None whatsoever. Even the official spokesperson for Focus on the Family admitted this during a media interview last week.
- Who created and is fueling this attack on the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender community? Intolerant, right-wing, evangelical, homophobic bigots like Ms. Barker and American_Patriot, that’s who!

Interesting ploy.
The weird folks want special treatments in all aspects of our lives, even to having access to bathrooms designed specifically to give people access to places to attend to their biological needs with some semblance of privacy and modesty.
When the majority balk at giving people unfettered access to formerly, and historically private areas free from prying eyes of the sexual deviants in our midst, it is viewed as an attack on the deviants when in all actuality, it is an attack on the moral fabric of OUR society.

GJBubba,
Perhaps GJBubba would like to take time out from his gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender advocacy and personal attacks to explain his assertion that there has been no effect as a result of a law which has only been in force for a very short period of time. What facts and figures does he offer? What would be the expected effects that could be documented in such a short time period. It is clear that he has ignored the multitude of letters from the public expressing concern for privacy rights and the possible misuse of this new law by those of less than honest intentions. This overwhelming expression of concern is a direct effect of that new law, and should not be dismissed with the wave of a hand. The ripple effect shown by the public interest and concern are a direct result and therefore an effect that I believe will be expressed in a more profound manner in the voting booth.

Far from getting democrats out of the legislature, every bit of available evidence indicates a nationwide sweep by the Demos this go around. The right wingers in Mesa county will no doubt do what they have shown us in the last two elections: vote out of step with the rest of the State, place themselves with the outdated and distinct minority of the rest of the nation and think in an antediluvian manner totally out of touch with the rest of the world. Quite a track record.

a_p,
It is a bit of a stretch to call the “expression of concern” you mention above “overwhelming”. I have only heard of it from a couple of rightwingers on this blog, from Laura Bradford, and the owner of a flooring store in town. You guys should really think of some other ploy to attack Bernie. I really think this one is going to backfire on you. IMHO

And that was quite a condemnation. Can you guess the reaction of those who read it? But why all the subtlety? Why not just come right out and say what you think? I am sure that would be much more effective for your side of the issue. Heck, you could probably bring those out of date and delusional voters running to the polls to vote for your candidates. Thanks for your efforts. I couldn’t have done it better myself.

Dc,
I think you may have missed the extent of the public reaction. That subject is all the rage at the supermarkets and discount stores. I will admit I have heard a lot more concern from women than I have from men. I suppose by virtue of the fact that I am accompanied by my wife, and it is possible that you do not realize the extent of the concern for much the same reason that a fish does not realize it is wet. I believe Bernie Beuscher realizes his vote in favor of this new “transgender law” may cost him votes. Would that be a reliable source? But of course he may realize that it is those out of date and delusional voters that voted him into office.

a_p,
I could be wrong, of course, but I simply cannot see how this bill changes much of anything except to protect transgendered people from persecution. I did not see anything there that gives anyone a right to peek into your toilet stall. I don’t get naked in a public toilet and I don’t think most people do. There are gay men and women who have been using toilet facilities for years. Gays are not necessarily pedophiles. As far as I understand it, this law simply allows trangender and tranvestite people to use whichever facility they consider appropriate without fear of legal retribution. If I have missed some nuance of this bill, please educate me.
And may I ask you to please refrain from insulting me again?

After reading Ms. Barker’s letter, one is definitely left with the question as to whether she is more concerned with something other than what is between people’s ears, when judging another.
With all of the rhetoric about this bill, by both Ms. Barker and her supporters, it would appear that they are all concentrating on what lies further down on the anatomy.
One has to wonder why that is? Or, perhaps they belong to the Senator ‘wide stance’ brigade. Whatever the case, they may have been spending too much time in the loo if they are so concerned with what goes on inside of them.

AP - For an intelligent view of Senate Bill 200, I suggest your read Bill Grant’s column in today’s (Tuesday) Sentinel, rather than relying on comments of the ignorant “trailer trash” you and your wife are obviously talking to in the check-out at Wal-Mart as they are getting their news and information out of the National Enquirer.

Women are afraid of transgender /transvestites? Why on earth?!
Posted July 8th, 2008 at 8:39 am Login to Send PM Report this comment
Oh I get it! My fellow women do not want to share! After all our public bathrooms are nice and clean, with all private stalls — the one at Country Jam even had A/C and a cushy seating area. Yet the ladies rooms are crowded, it is no wonder. So I think what my fellow females are saying is, I don’t care who you think you are. If you were born with a penis, use the other one. The lines to ours are long enough as it is!
Yes I have gone into a men’s bathroom before out of desperation and believe me ladies, you don’t want to go there. It is probably why some men hear the call to be trans to begin with … they can’t bear the thought of havint to use these disgusting public men’s rooms for the rest of their lives.

GJBubba, aka sugarfoot, aka Proteus;
And you, of course, consider yourself to be a pillar of civility and tolerance. Your comments betray a bitter heart. I will pray for you, and I ask others to do so as well, that your heart may be changed.

I’m not afraid of transgender folks, either, but I must admit, I would prefer only females in my public restroom (regardless of their sexual orientation).
I haven’t used a men’s restroom out of desperation, but I can’t say that if I was desperate and it was empty that I wouldn’t

meh…this bill is simply another non-issue for me…i doubt it’s going to have any effect one way or the other on transgendered peopl, pedophiles, or rapists….

American_Patriot - I was recently in a local coffee house whose restroom facilities consist of two (2) “unisex” bathrooms located side by side. Considering how you feel about Senate Bill 200, what would be your advice to a post-operative transgender person who needed to go the bathroom. Also, do you or your wife feel uncomfortable using public restrooms knowing who “might” have frequented them? Curious minds want to know.
Also, I have a question about the “moniker” you use on this forum. It’s well known that Indian Reservations are considered sovereign nations. This brings up the question as to whether persons of Indian heritage who are members of any tribe which inhabit or are connected with a reservation are actually “Americans” at all. If you fit into this category, it might be well for you to consider modifying your forum name from “American_Patriot” to “Indian_Patriot.” Just a thought.

Um, GJBubba, what does AP’s screen name or his heritage have to do with restroom use? I don’t see the connection.

Sorry, AP, I missed the prayer request.
Lord, please show kindness and mercy to GJBubba. If it is your will, Lord, please soften his heart. In your precious Son’s name, Amen.

Sue - There is no connection. I just enjoying jerking A-P’s chain (by giving him some of his own medicine) once in a while.

Sue; Probably. Let’s face it, the old saying that men “never grow up, they just grow taller” is true. The evidence is this is exhibited on this forum by most of the “regulars” every day.
