Richard Alward, as representative from Mesa County on the Colorado Oil and Gas Commission, has an opportunity to show his support for the 2,000-plus business owners and energy workers like me who attended the June oil and gas hearing in Grand Junction.
Mr. Alward will be voting on our livelihoods very soon, and I hope he agrees with state Reps. Bernie Buescher and Kathleen Curry that there are serious problems with the proposed regulations.
Soon, we shall see.

Mr. Adcock - If your “livelihood” is in any way detrimental to the health, safety, and welfare to the citizens of Mesa County or the environment, then you should find a better way to make a living.

gjblubber, PROVE THE DANGER!
Do not expect us to sit idly by while you make your claims of damage the subject.
It’s all political rhetoric with no substance to your claims other than ‘well, maybe it could happen’.

The letter writer, Mr. Adcock, has apparently succumbed to ‘fear’ by allowing himself to be intimidated by the energy industry mantra of “Give us what we want, or we will leave.” They won’t. Not as long as there is ‘buck to be made’, even at the expense of the people in the area and their long term interests.
Instead of merely asking how Mr. Alward will vote on the issue, he might bother to ask the individual as to why he will/did. That might be more useful than any attempt to coerce the individual to vote in a certain way. It might even be informational and illuminating to Mr. Adcock.

Rich Alward will vote for what is best for all citizens of the state and not against anything. Laitres is right. Nobody is going to lose his job and Rich will take into account the future of the state and the physical and mental health of it’s inhabitants without shutting off anything other than bad industry practices.

What really makes the difference is that Rich Alward knows something Mr. Adcock does not. Like…the truth. Mr. Adcock gets his information, I suspect, from the Colorado Oil and Gas Association, which was the source of the misinformation that drew large crowds of concerned locals to Two Rivers. Many of those locals are pretty sore about the way COGA misinformed them to get them to turn out. I, too, was there.
Commissioner Alward is not “representative from Mesa County”. Mr. Adcock seems to imply that it is Mr. Alwards job to represent Mesa County. No more than any other county. Garfield County Commissioner Tresi Houpt was selected as the commissioner to represent local governments, Mr. Alward, who lives in Mesa County, was chosen for his experience and expertise in reclamation and environmental issues. Mr.Adcock is a little too transparent in his choice of words and sentence structure.
I have spoken with both Representives, Buescher and Curry, on this subject and I can tell you that both are committed to working with the industry, the State Agencies, and all the other stakeholders to put in place a set of rules that will allow the industry to thrive, while also providing common sense protections for those things that make Colorado special. Colorado is the destination of millions of tourists, hunters, fishermen, retirees, and countless other business owners and professionals who choose to live here because of the natural beauty and quality of life Colorado has to offer.
Clean air, clean water, wildlife protection, and the public health and safety will once again be an equal part of the equation when oil and gas development in Colorado takes place. To quote Martha Stewart, “It’s a good thing”.

Mr. Adcock just eats up the COGA misinformation and repeats their threats and the false “Us vs. Them” dichotomy.
Perhaps it is unknown to Mr. Adcock, but Mr. Alward is also a contractor in the gas industry. He no more wants to cost you your job than he wants to lose his own job. And, like all of the other COGCC commissioners, I’m sure Mr. Alward has been receiving all of the fear-mongering and lie-filled postcards from COGA.
It’s pretty disgusting what COGA has been doing. They are making people fear for their jobs. This is all a big con.
To borrow a phrase from Josh Penry: In 2007 every single state senator and representative supported making new laws to protect wildlife and, with the help of COGA, “they’ve been trying to sabotage it ever since.”
