Hey, Boobus Americanus, you now have what you so richly deserve: a chicken-hearted do-nothing Congress afraid to take a principled stand, a know-nothing President whose greatest accomplishment has been to occasionally say “nuclear” correctly, and a stop-at-nothing vice-president whose Svengali like machinations have brought forth a chorus of sycophants singing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

So, what to do or not? Nothing? That probably would only lead to a fourth “war” in Iran. We are already engaged in a war on terror, one in Afghanistan and one in Iraq. So what if the Doomsday clock moves to about 30 seconds to midnight, our Mortimer Snerd in the White House has assured everyone that preventing Iran from securing “nuculear” weapons even with the military option will prevent World War III. This was supported later by the veep in his imitation of Edgar Bergen. Why wouldn’t he do so? They were his words to begin with.

Another choice is to throw out all the garbage and start over, beginning by insisting that everyone running for office will faithfully and fully support the Constitution of the United States and, if they fail to do so, throw them out or, if necessary, throw them in jail. Of course, should this course of action be taken, it would be very difficult to find a trash bin to handle all the garbage.

What do you think, Boobus?

    Well, Mr. Chaplik,

I fear your opinion is poorly stated and in serious need of anger management.

And while your opinion is undergoing therapy, you might want to step into the next office for a little help yourself.

To more correctly state your position might I help out a little here?

If we are in a war, it is because 545 people that run this country wants us in a war.

If gas prices are too high, it’s because the same people want the prices too high.

This list goes on, and on, and on, and covers every real or perceived problem with this nation.

They are the 435 members of the house of representatives, 100 members of the senate, nine supreme court justices, and the President.
Mr. Cheney lacks any real power, because he cannot even sign an executive order to get anything done.

And once we get those bums out, then we can go to work on the state and local garbage.

Then, once the ‘elected’ officials are lined out, we can take aim at the bureaucrats that hide behind every bad regulation and deliberately make American Citizens that have to beg them for something a pure, living hell.

Great Letter. Respecting the Constitution? We may be headed back in that direction soon, hooray! The more wreckless and destructive acts are government embarks on, the closer we are to resolution. We will undoubtedly be in for a real doozy of a presidency for four more years but after that I predict a major oppinion change toward constitutionalism. Vote for Ron Paul, even if he isn’t on the ballot, write him in.

I’m not a ron paul fan, but he is a person that lives his positions.

With the other two, they tell you what they believe, but their histories tell that they may not be 100% honest in their telling…

The subject is rather similar to ‘term limits’, something that applies to many elective offices. And, upon that question, many of us have mixed feelings. There are arguments that can be made, for and against. However is that the real problem? I would submit that it is not.

Rather, the problem appears to be that far too many members of the electorate fail to ‘watch’ those they place in office. That enables many incumbents to continue exactly what they ‘want’ to do. Once their term ‘expires’ in one positon, they merely move on to another one. That makes them no less, but actually more of ‘professional politicians’.

The answer really lies in ‘watching’ what each and every elected or appointed official is doing. Many government officials, elected or otherwise, will not like that. It involves work and effort but, if people want control of government and its officials, that is exactly what they will have to do.

The letter writers’ position, while perhaps ’sounding good’, really solves nothing. We would only have to keep throwing group after group out of office, merely for the purpose of ‘throwing them out’. Some believe that, I am not of such a mind.

RL, your remarks are visible every election here in Mesa County.

We have the same group moving from one post to another when they are term limited out.
And, for some really strange reason, the same problems continue unabated.

If you do not reelect a politician, the next election cycle, they reappear going for a different position.

Particularly noticeable is the flow from city council to county commissioner and back….

Willis, you said,”If you do not reelect a politician, the next election cycle, they reappear going for a different position. Particularly noticeable is the flow from city council to county commissioner and back….”

You might want to do a fact check on the above statement.

To my knowledge, none of the current Mesa County Commissioners has ever been a member of any city council within Mesa County, nor any current member of any city council within Mesa County been a Mesa County Commissioner.

To my knowledge, the last person who was both a City Councilperson and Mesa County Commissioner was Jim Spehar, and there was at least a 8-10 year gap between his one term as a Mesa County Commissioner and his two terms as a Grand Junction City Councilperson.

Mr. Johnson posted: “RL, your remarks are visible every election here in Mesa County.

We have the same group moving from one post to another when they are term limited out.
And, for some really strange reason, the same problems continue unabated.”

Yes, my remarks are visible but, it is never my intent to interfere in the elections occuring in Mesa County. That is strictly the affair of the citizens of that county. However, there may be several reasons to comment upon them. If the vote is a candidate for state office, that concerns everyone in the state, and therefore concerns everyone in the state. Then, if the problem in Mesa County is the same as one in Delta, and many are, that is certainly applicable.

You are correct in that we have allowed a ‘new class’ of public officials called ‘professional politicians’. And they will, as stated, play ‘musical chairs’ with public office. That does not at all serve the public interest well, as they all too often place their own ‘career path’ and employment ahead of the public interest. (And in this I do not exclude some members of my own Democratic Party). Such individuals come wearing all types of costumes.

The solution, as stated in my previous post on the subject, is to watch every single one of them ‘like a hawk’, paying attention not only to what they say, but what they do. Let me assure you (and from personal experience), that involves a great deal of effort, and the subjects of our scrutiny don’t like it ‘a whit’.

Isn’t it about time that we all start doing that instead of leaving it to a few?

In another post, I also stated that in passing legislation/regulations, each piece of legislation should deal with one, and only one, issue. It needs to be clearly defined and its applicability absolutely restricted. Also, if lobbyist are to submit ‘ideas’ or ‘recommendations’, that needs to be done in written form, and ‘posted’ on-line (as an attachment to the bill, although not part of it) such that it is available to the general public. Only in that way can we possibly know whom our officials are serving.

Such may not have been possible in the past but, given the state of current information technology, it would not be too much of a task. The only reason it is not done is because some do not want it to happen. It is quite easy to determine those who don’t want it to. And that is neither Mr. Johnson nor myself.

Wasn’t that other weasel with the brother that rented his closet on both?

Seems to me like he was.

  9. Willis_Leon_Johnson

I don’t much like any politician that feels the need for secrecy in his/her dealings with any person or groups of persons that wish to influence that politicians viewpoint.
