Once again, the city has got its hands out to its citizens. It’s just not enough that city revenues are at an all-time high; they want more! More out of our pockets on everything we buy.

Forget that our personal budgets are squeezed to the limit, and most of us don’t have any extra at the end of the month. No, the City Council, and our $200,000-a-year city manager want us to spend millions more, to fill some void that never existed, but now they deem as desperate.

Rather than pay off any other obligations this city might otherwise owe, all they can do is dream up better ways to take more out of our pockets. Is this the best we can do?

Vote “No” on this sales tax increase, and for goodness sakes, vote out all of the incumbents running for re-election. This joke needs to end now!

All of the fabulous sales tax revenue rolling in is being used to pay off the Riverside Parkway bonds–early. If I’m not mistaken, that is the city’s only indebtedness. The “excess” TABOR revenue can only be used for that purpose, per the voters wishes. This city has very legitimate needs far beyond the revenue it is receiving, primarily because of TABOR restrictions. The TABOR limitation formula for the amount of revenue that can be spent, as opposed to the amount received, is based on the population and economic actvity increaes on the Front Range. The amount of economic activity and population increases in our area exceeds that of the Front Range and we are not able to stay abreast of pressing needs to handle the growth. There is a large backlog of roads and facilities needs in our city because only some of the costs of the Riverside Parkway was covered by bonds, the rest came out of a limited capital expenditures budget. The city is hamstrung in dealing with the things that city residents want and need. I suggest that Mr. Badini run for council if he has the answers to how to handle 10 pounds of needs from a 5 pound bag. If elected , it will be interesting to see if his evaluation of needs matches that of the majority of citizens.
