Judging from the July 30 editorial, “Fishing for publicity” one needs to seriously question as to what The Daily Sentinel considers its true mission. Is it to keep the public informed, or to keep the public in the dark about issues by defending and/or assisting government and public officials in their efforts to practice concealment?  From the contents of the aforementioned article, one can readily conclude it to be the latter.

The newspaper has, in its banner, the word “Sentinel.”  And that means one who watches and guards. The question for The Daily Sentinel is:  In which direction is the “Sentinel” facing?  Is it watching government and government officials in defense of the public, or is it watching the public in service to government and government officials?

Perhaps The Daily Sentinel and its staff might wish to do a little introspection.  They might find that, as some of us have so often observed, it is too closely wedded to officialdom.

The judgment rendered in the article, accusing Mr. Hugenberg of “seeking publicity” is prima facie ridiculous. It is not based upon anything which the gentleman has ever said, advocated, or done.

One must therefore conclude that the author of the editorial article is merely speculating and ascribing motivation and evil intent on the part of Mr. Hugenberg, merely because he does not agree with him on an issue.

It is probably a testament to the dumbing of America that such a person, one making his living with words, cannot understand the simple concept of “If you can’t destroy the message, then destroy the messenger.”  Of course, one might also conclude that such was the actual intent of the article.

Actually bob, the Sentinel has been quite accurate in its assessment of your friends behavior.

Since your friend first appeared on the scene, here in the Grand Valley, he has written numerous letters to the editor, and starred in several dramas instigated by his own actions, or actions by others that he ‘offers’ unrequested advice to the ‘protesters’, and usually contains a thinly veiled threat of a lawsuit against the government agency involved if they do not cave immediately to his/their demands/’requests’.

Of course, he also never fails to mention how highly trained he is in Constitutional Law, and he is the most renown person on the planet in each set of circumstances he brings forth, or causes to be brought forth in the name of the poor, downtrodden, victims in the neighborhood.

I have noticed however, that on occasion, he brings up a supreme court case with no relevance to the issue at hand, and sends others out to try to cover his errors.

So, bob, which of his screwups are you trying to cover for?

RLaitres - When all is said and done, it’s all about the money. If Sentinel management doesn’t keep large local advertisers and politicians happy, they can’t remain in business. Make no mistake, local financial institutions, real estate companies and various other business clients directly or indirectly, overtly or covertly, influence editorial choices. Add the influence of local Republican office holders, and the sordid triangle is complete.

    gjbubba?

Did you read what you posted?

The advertisers go where their ads will be seen by the most purchasers.

The other paper does not have the breadth and scope of the daily sentinel.

The editorial content matters little to the advertisers, as long as the most potential customers see, and read their ads.

So, now we know that you don’t advertise, nor make advertising decisions, and that makes your statement totally irrelevant doesn’t it?

  4. GJBubba

Willis - Please don’t presume to tell me about what goes on in the media, advertising or marketing, as I was involved in all of them for almost forty years. What I said is true and goes on every day.

“What did you do in the business world, Daddy?”

  5. Willis_Leon_Johnson

My job is to make liberal look stupid.

And why am I not allowed to “presume” when every post you put up here is nothing more than a ‘presumption’ on your part?

Let me guess, you spent your entire life as the president of an advertising agency on Madison Avenue….

Well, in between your years of active duty with the United States Marine Corps., your many years as a Buddhist Monk, an astronaut, deep sea diver/underwater welder, and alls the other personae that you haven’t dreamed up yet.

“My job is to make liberal look stupid.”

    You’re doing it backwards.

It is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence.

It appears that those who support Mr. Hugenberg and the atheist agenda have created their own contradictory statement. While on the one hand, they state that the Daily Sentinel editorial exposing Mr Hugenberg as a publicity hound is a product of pandering to area advertisers, and politicians, on the other hand they had nothing but praise for the Daily Sentinel editorial endorsing their candidate Dave Kearsley, who is the candidate for a County Commissioner seat. Sorry atheists, you can’t have it both ways. Can it be that this accusation of pandering by the atheists is in the eye of the beholder? But then old habits die hard, and for far too long, our government officials have been caving in to their outrageous demands. In the past, all they have had to do was to voice outrage at some alleged offense and elected officials would fold like a lawn chair, and they no doubt expect the Sentinel to do the same. But there is a growing backlash by the people of Mesa County, which is the result of Mesa County Commissioner Janet Rowland taking a public stand against their tactics of thinly veiled threats to sue public officials. In the Monday night debate in Fruita, incumbent Mesa County Commissioner Janet Rowland, indicated she would not cave in to the atheist bullies, and publicly stated that she was in favor of keeping the invocation as a part of the County Commission meetings. And now the Daily Sentinel has followed suit with their editorial exposing the atheists mouthpiece, Attorney Hugenberg, for his publicity seeking advocacy of the atheist cause, which hit the nails right on the head. and it is apparent that the nails are getting desperate and angry.

Why are we getting desperate? We’re winning.

” “My job is to make liberal look stupid.”

    You’re doing it backwards. ‘

That’s called multi tasking, and I can do it either frontwards, backwards, or even sideways.

But it’s not like a difficult thing to accomplish scott.

    In post #8.

    What are you winning?

Or, sorry, that was typo and I promised I wouldn’t pick on typos.

For those who, like me thought he said “winning”, it correctly spelled ‘whining’.

GJbubba stated: “When all is said and done, it’s all about the money.”

That fact is undisputed. The real question is: “How much and how many are they willing to sacrifice in their woship to the almighty dollar, their real god?” This problem is not limited to Mesa County. It is even obvious in Delta County where we can categorize the newsprint put out in several of three categories. The first is a ‘toady’ to local govenment entities, othewise they might loose advertising revenue. The second is an apologist for every business enterprise, and only business enterprise and the third is a ‘happy sheet’, consisting of but telling ‘happy stories’ of how wonderful thing are here in ‘Happy Valley’.

When looking at this sad state of affairs I am reminded of the saying that “Democracy is a device that insures the people get the government they deserve”. That is true but it is not only the ‘government’ they deserve, they also get the type of press they deserve.

This is why we often refer to it as “The Daily Senile”.

  12. Willis_Leon_Johnson

    The Daily Senile?

What an awesome title for classes ramblings and postings.

“From the desk of the Daily Senile”.

    I like it.

  13. Willis_Leon_Johnson

Hey gene, I see that you are online as I type.

Oh class, you overbloated elitist snob.

You slandered a variety of well respected scientists in the Global warming forum, and you have yet to respond to the facts you requested.

    Why is that?

Afraid to admit that you lied about those people in a failed effort to make yourself appear intelligent?
    You pompous ass classless.

You slander good honest people in your retarded tirade on global warming and in order to gain any credibility you are just going to have to break down and admit that you lied for purely political reasons.

Would you care to see how many times I can post this demand before you give up and apologize for your dishonest behavior?

  14. Willis_Leon_Johnson

    Alas, no class…

Just POOF! and he was gone with nary a word about his slanderous attacks on better scientists with much more impressive achievements than he could ever have hoped for.

Such a shame that he has become nothing but a mere shell of a man, with nothing but bitterness to occupy his life.
