Any real maverick would know that in Colorado: “Whiskey’s for drinking, and water’s for fighting.” But now John McCain wants to socialize your water.
State’s rights? Not when it comes to our water. This is more of the same big-government, special-interest nonsense that we’ve been hearing for years out of Washington. D.C. McCain is supposedly a westerner, but he’s been in Washington for so long he’s forgotten that we control our water, not some bureaucrats who listen more to Las Vegas developers and their needs, while forgetting the needs of real working Americans — the farmers and ranchers here in Mesa, Delta, and Garfield counties.
Who is John McCain kidding? Does he really think that we’re as dumb as that? To give up our most precious resource so his Phoenix buddies can play golf in the desert? John McCain thinks that your livelihood, your way of life, your values are “up for renegotiation” to make life easier for the irresponsible growth in the desert downstream. This isn’t about partisanship; every politician in the state (from Ken Salazar to Bob Sahaffer) have loudly declared “over my dead body.”
It’s time to tell John McCain to get his hands off our water. He seems to have forgotten that our water is ours; it’s not up for renegotiation in Washington D.C. The choice is clear: McCain wants federal control of our water. Barack Obama has said the opposite, he wants states to control their water and their future. McCain’s values won’t help us here in Grand Junction.
It’s time to put some sense back in Washington D.C. and from where I’m sitting there’s only one candidate, Barack Obama, who understands the realities of water in the west.

The way I see it, the energy business around here will flourish no matter who gets into the white house. There may be better oversight with BHO, but they are not going to pack it in until every last BTU is accounted for. UNLESS there is a massive water grab by AZ and NV and CA…These energy projects take a hell of alot of water…
Partisanship drops off when folk’s wallets will see the impact of ‘their’ candidate, hopefully.

McCain of course is now backpedaling like crazy from his water compact comments as witness his remarks quoted in the Sentinel today. He is going to find it a little more difficult to backpedal from his inability to answer how many homes he owns (correct answer = 7). Nothing could be more illustrative of how out of touch with the concerns of the average American he is. Why all these right wingers in Mesa County continue to vote against their economic interests is difficult to understand, presumably because they do not understand the issues and believe the infamous Republican attack ads.

You have no knowledge of the WHY I am on Oxygen 24/7.
Nor do you have any knowledge of the WHY I have a wheelchair to contend with.
And it is only YOUR assumption that I am bitter.
I enjoy life and have a very nice life.

You call me bitter because, under similar circumstances, YOU would be bitter simply for the fact that you are already bitter towards your own life and your surroundings.

Once again, Sen. McCain has demonstrated that he has the interests of his corporate buddies at heart. How many times do you suppose his wealthy developer friends have hit him up to get them some more water from Colorado and the other upper basin states, if he snatches the White House? As his Alzheimers’ disease continues to develop, he will certainly become even more forgetful of the things his campaign tells him not to say.

Amen to that. This person is extremely rude, and gratuitously so. He viciously and personally attacks all those with whom he disagrees and indulges in relentless and childish name-calling. His posts are usually cranky, negative diatribes that show that he is opinionated, but never show any significant understanding of the issues, or even an inclination to learn from anyone – a real piece of work.
If you are J. Eugene Fox, I appreciated the article you wrote for the Free Press yesterday regarding evolution. I thought it hit the nail on the head. We don’t have many people with your kind of academic and professional credentials in this town, so you must know that much of the negativity you experience at this site comes from those who sense their own lack of accomplishment and fulfillment. Their self-worth seems to be tied up in attempting to demonize and tear down anybody who is successful or who makes a positive contribution.

Yes, one and the same person. Thanks for the kind words. When daBookie first came on this forum he was accused of being an alter ego of mine. Later I met him and we had a good laugh about it. So it is not surprising that you will be accused of the same thing.
You may be interested to know that at the Bagel Street Irregulars meeting this morning (You should join us-Friday mornings at 9:30 at Main Street Bagels) we decided to get together an action group to ascertain just what is done in our local high schools vis a vis the teaching of modern concepts of biology. We will try to determine if in fact there is indeed intimidation from local Fundamentalist parents against the teaching of the principles of evolution in our high schools as I was told by a classmate of my daughter.

His continual lying about me, my knowledge and academic achievements are going to come to a halt.

No, you don’t have any need to lie, yet you do anyway. How about that cite where I claimed never to have read the Constitution. You seem to be running away from my attempts to get you to provide that. You said you had it, yet you have never posted it. Now, we both know you can’t, because I said no such thing but you won’t admit it, will you? All you have to do to prove me wrong is post the citation that supports your claim. You said you had it easily available. Why won’t you post it?

Willis/C52 - There is a simple way to at least partially resolve this disability issue.
Willis, you have mentioned your supposed (we have nothing but your word that you are disabled at all) disabilities on more than one occasion, but I think some clarification is in order:
Willis - Do you require the use of supplemental oxygen on a daily basis? YES or NO?
Willis - Do you require the use of a wheelchair on a regular basis? YES or NO?
See how simple the solution is.
Of course, the ultimate solution would be for you to attend one of the regular meetings of the Bagel Street Irregulars so we could meet you in person. You would not feel out of place - one of our regular attendees is on oxygen 24/7, and another uses a wheelchair.
How about it?

Lacking additional information, I have speculated that you finally graduated from SOMEWHERE by being awarded a “certificate of completion” from the Yuma Academy of Taxidermy and Faith Healing.
Unfortunately, your lack of bona fide academic credentials prohibited you from entering the workforce as a professional, forcing you to toil as a member of the “manual labor force” until health problems stemming from your work as a miner, mechanic or laborer forced you to quit work and go on the government dole.
