Presidential candidate and senator from Arizona John McCain thinks that the Colorado River compact of 1922 should be renegotiated in light of current demands on the river. This sounds like he favors sending more water to the lower basin states of Arizona and California.
Water in Colorado and especially Colorado River water is already over appropriated. Our Western values, our way of life and our future economic vitality are directly linked to our water. There is no more precious resource in our state. Sen. McCain is completely out of touch with reality in Colorado.

Well, now. Since every politician and elected official, including the Republicans, have blasted Sen. McCain over this. He has backed off of his statement, saying he was misunderstood. I read his original quote. I don’t think we misunderstood anything.
