Sen. McCain’s statement to the Pueblo Chieftain:

”I don’t think there’s any doubt the major, major issue is water and can be as important as oil. So the compact that is in effect, obviously, needs to be renegotiated over time amongst the interested parties” clearly belies his assertion his statement was “misconstrued.”

“Misconstrued” No. Uninformed? Without a doubt. The Republican candidate, representing a thirsty Lower Basin state, was unaware the compact had been revised in December 2007.

Joseph Romm noted in his column, “Apparently no one bothered to brief the candidate that (taking) Colorado’s water to benefit Arizona, California and Nevada isn’t as popular an idea in Colorado as it is in Arizona, California and Nevada…”

Going into a lion’s den and poking the lion with a sharp stick could conceivably be problematic.  McCain’s lack of understanding about water issues in a state which is the source of the greatest water resource in the West is problematic.

Barack Obama understands that water, like fossil fuels, is a precious and limited commodity. He will help communities develop water-saving projects; establish a plan to develop water banks, rainwater reservoirs, wastewater treatment plants and the latest conservation methods.
Senator Obama has a long record of supporting Western issues.  He voted for, and McCain repeatedly opposed, the Water Resources Development Act which authorized spending for Colorado.  If McCain wants water from us for Arizona, that’s no way to treat a neighbor.

Rob Smith, Sierra Club Southwest Regional Director notes, “Scientists have predicted a 10-30 percent reduction of water flow in the Colorado River due to long-term drought …  Instead of threatening a diminishing resource, it would be better to help states and communities with water conservation projects …”

Barack Obama understands the vital issue of water in Colorado.

You must have missed the following sentence Rexall:

“Senator Obama has a long record of supporting Western issues. He voted for, and McCain repeatedly opposed, the Water Resources Development Act which authorized spending for Colorado.”

    Rexall,

“My guess is that obamaman does not even know we havew water issues in Colorado.
He may not even know we have water.”

You are betraying your pre conceptions. Without even knowing you I would guess that you are a Republican or, gasp, a Libertarian?

  4. Rexall

52—I did not miss anything—obamaman will vote for whatever will get him ahead, he does not have to know anything about it.

If he can grow government he will.
