It is the day following the historic acceptance speech by Barack Obama, the first ever African-American to attain this level of national prominence. Obama delivered one of the most articulate, inspiring and rousing speeches ever since the era of JFK and Martin Luther King, Jr. Yet what is on the editorial page of The Daily Sentinel? An article about a 9-year-old baseball pitcher from Connecticut and another one linking high gas prices with fewer highway deaths. I can hardly believe that the Sentinel editorial staff has neglected the opportunity to comment on this noteworthy event which occurred right here in our very own state.

that’s all obama is good for, speeches. he is sadly mistaken if he thinks he can unify his country. my distrust of him and his past associations will never change. i’m interested in the pick mccain made this morning, look at her approval ratings in her state, 80%, she must be doing something right.

S. Vandervelde: I can hardly believe that the Sentinel editorial staff has neglected the opportunity to comment on this noteworthy event which occurred right here in our very own state.
The Sentinel is simply reflecting the attitude of the majority political opinion of the citizens here in Happy Valley who have all pulled their blankets over their collective heads while praying desperately that this man will simply go away (or that something bad will happen to him).

In the Sentinel’s heart of hearts, they want to endorse Bob Barr or Ron Paul for President because their editorial page editor is an ardent Libertarian.

Obama isn’t going away. He still has the remainder of his first Senate term to complete. Maybe he will now be a ble to spend some time there given that most of his first term has, so far, been on the campaign trail.

I have not heard any complaint from the citizens of Illinois. Perhaps they think having another President from their state is worth more.

Hey Shari, The Sentinel is for sale, but it and run it the way you think it should be run.
In the meantime, olbammer is still a joke for a candidate for dog catcher.
He is not Presidential material, and never will be.
He has no experience in his resume that would make him a viable, electable candidate unless he is supported by a corrupt political organization such as they have in Chicago where 25% of the votes are cast by dead people.
It will be hard to find 24% of the upcoming Presidential election voting from the cemetery.

Speaking of Senator Obama, bullishfrog states: “Maybe he will now be a ble to spend some time there given that most of his first term has, so far, been on the campaign trail.”
Prior to pointing fingers, the gentleman may look at where his obvious candidate has been during this period? He certainly has not been in the Senate. Is bullishfrog suggesting that Senator McCain also concentrate on his senatorial duties?

Ms. Vandervelde should not be at all surprised at the Daily Sentinel not ‘commenting’ on such an event. However, had some gaffe or other incident occured that might, even remotely, have reflected poorly on the Democrats, or served the interests of the Republican Party, they would have. It would have been part of the ‘fair and balanced’ approach of modern journalism, including the Daily Sentinel.
