This is a response to Randall Thompson’s letter on Rep. Bernie Buescher and SB 200.

May I suggest that rather than accept what Mr. Thompson has heard, he might take time to read the entire bill Bernie Buescher and others sponsored. Or better yet, contact Bernie and ask him about it himself.

I personally do not agree with everything in SB 200, but I surely do not see anything in there that even suggests men can use women’s restrooms or visa versa. If he can find that paragraph, I am willing to be corrected in my understanding of the bill?

I might add that like many women who have had to endure long lines in the women’s restrooms and seeing no lines in the men’s, I have been tempted to use the men’s just for the sake of expediency!

If I were the owner of a business I wouldn’t even have “Men” and “Women” restrooms - they would all be “Unisex;” just like in Europe (but then, the Europeans are far more mature and sensible in these matters than we seem to be).

Ullr says: “..the Europeans are far more mature and sensible in these matters than we seem to be”

They are more mature because they relagate ’sex’ to its proper place, a purely animal function. As a result, they are not obsessed by the subject and therefore don’t make ‘fools of themselves’ over it. Doing so is almost purely an American phenomenon.

Ullr, I just got back from Holland. I did not see a single unisex bathroom.

BFrog: “Ullr, I just got back from Holland. I did not see a single unisex bathroom.”

Then you must have stayed in the vicinity of your hotel. I have been to Holland 15 or 20 times all over the country. And I guarantee you that there are unisex bathrooms in this as well as many other European countries.

Class, maybe so. I didn’t see any and I was there for 7 days. And I was all over Amsterdam and other parts of North and South Holland. All the ones I went into said “heren”. But I defer to your vaster travel experience. But certainly, even if there some unisex bathrooms, that I did not see, they would be in the minority.

Actually, Class, let me ammend my comment. I just remembered that we went to a very small neighborhood restaurant where there was only one bathroom.

Beverly … Like many women, I HAVE tried to use the “men’s room” on occasion because of extremely long lines at the ladies’ (such as at public events) …

However I have usually found them to be nearly (or entirely) too disgusting for words.

I have a conspiracy theory about women who are against SB 200. They don’t want to share “our” bathrooms with any more people, even the tiny transvestite minority. There simply are not enough nice stalls to go around!

Seriously it is not about bathrooms though.

Ash, on the subject of men bathrooms is rather correct: “However I have usually found them to be nearly (or entirely) too disgusting for words.”

I have no idea what women’s bathrooms look like but most of the men’s bathrooms are a “sight to NOT behold”. What always amazes me is the amout of grafitti on the walls, almost as if it is the place where they are struck by the ‘muse’. If that is the case, it would be my wish to be able to inform them that they may be doing their ‘thinking’ with the wrong body parts.
