If I were Henrietta Hay, I would have written this:
Am I happy that we have a woman running for vice president? Yes.
Will I vote for a woman who is, at long last, a candidate for the vice presidency just because she is a woman? No. I will vote for the McCain/Palin ticket because of experience and the fact that she is a conservative like the great Ronald Reagan.
I am thrilled at seeing a woman being used as Sarah Palin is being used for a great political purpose. When John McCain selected Sarah Palin to be his running mate, I don’t think that he would have ever imagined her conservatism would energize the conservative base as it has and at the same time winning over much of the Reagan democrats. It is a political power maneuver of the best kind, and is uplifting for all conservatives that believe that there is a greater power and that babies do have a right to be born.
Women have made great progress, including an occasional CEO of a large corporation, like one of John McCain’s top advisors, Carly Fiorina, who is the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard Corporation. There are many more women that have become U.S. senators and representatives and some governors, like Sarah Palin, and a huge jump in women’s athletics.
Since McCain’s announcement that Sarah Palin would be his running mate, we have learned a great deal about Sarah. She is an impassioned speaker that has energized millions. She is a reformer that has no fear even from those in her own party. She believes in God and is also pro-life. Sarah Palin wants to ban all sex education from public schools! Not a bad idea when you consider that Obama voted for a bill that would teach sex education to children in kindergarten. Five year olds and sex education?
Sarah is an avowed believer in creationism as our founding fathers were. She thinks that it would be important to discuss in our classrooms.
Sarah would fight to overthrow Roe v. Wade. Something about Sarah finds it hard to accept another 45 million babies killed before they are born. The left hate Sarah because she is pro-life. Sarah and her family not only walk the walk, but they talk the talk! When talking about their newest addition to their family, a little boy named Trig who has downssyndrome, Sarah said “We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this great gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he enters our lives. We have faith that every baby is created for good purpose and has potential to make this world a better place. We are truly blessed”.
McCain needs the far-right base, and thank God, Gov. Palin is about as far right as he can get. As governor of Alaska, Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Joe Biden’s and certainly by far exceeds Obama’s.
Vice President Palin is music to my ears. President Palin, that thought will allow me to sleep better tonight.

Hey, if we’re doing a “what they should have said”, here, let me try. If I were the President, I would have written this;
**
My Fellow Americans;
Sorry I lied about Iraq and 9/11. I am terribly, terribly sorry for the deaths of thousands of your sons, daughters, fathers and mothers, in the name of enriching my associates, and at the expense of the U.S. Treasury.
Sincerely,
George W. Bush

Wow, I feel better, too…Let’s do another one!

This letter illustrates why Henrietta Hay is a widely read and respected columnist and Mr. Thompson is not.
