In the last eight years, seniors have seen the erosion of many of the gains it took most of our lifetime to achieve. Reversing those losses begins with this election. We can either choose a new direction for our country, or we can choose to continue the same old politics and the same failed policies that got us here in the first place.
Powerful Washington special interests came close to privatizing Social Security in 2005 with the help of President George W. Bush and Sen. John McCain. Their approach would have resulted in profits of billions for those special interests. Those profits would come out of the pockets of every-day Americans, who would see their benefits cut and who would have to work to meet a higher retirement age before becoming eligible for Social Security. Barack Obama will not give them a second chance.
Barack Obama will ensure that Social Security is protected from those who would privatize it and cut benefits to make a profit. And Barack is committed to making repairs to Social Security that will strengthen it for today’s retirees, their children and their grandchildren.
