This opinion is a rebuttal to Henrietta Hay’s September 11, 2008 article. Is it possible that John McCain chose Sarah Palin because she exemplifies the change that America needs?

The media keep talking about Sarah Palin’s experience. Ms. Hay’s has the audacity to state in her article that the thought of President Palin keeps her up at night. Do you know what keeps me up at night? The thought of President Obama, which is a more likely, and scary, scenario.  No one is talking about his experience, or lack thereof.

Talk about an impassioned speaker who energizes millions yet says nothing!  Sarah Palin is a regular woman who joined politics to make a difference, not for political power.  She has run the state of Alaska.  I am still unable to understand how being a governor does not qualify as experience.
Sarah Palin is an inspiration to young women like me.  We look at her and say to ourselves, “Maybe I could run for office and make a real change.  Sarah Palin is just like me.”

Whether or not you share Sarah Palin’s values, does she not have a right to her own beliefs?
What can Sarah Palin do for Americans?  She can bring women’s issues front and center, like education, sexism, and domestic violence.  She wants to drill in ANWR, which would help us become energy independent from Middle Eastern terrorists and bring gas prices down.  Sarah Palin will overhaul the education system and make it better for our children.  She will keep taxes low and use our money responsibly.

John McCain did not just pick Sarah Palin because she is a woman but because she is a woman who can bring hope and change to the American people, especially American women.  This sounds like responsible decision-making to me.
