I was appalled by letter writer Barb Davenport’s Sept. 19 reference to who would care for “thousands of unwanted babies” if Roe v. Wade were reversed. Apparently, she is not very familiar with adoption and buys into the many misconceptions out there about adoption.
Our son is one of those “unwanted babies,” as she refers to them. Let me make very clear that our son is very wanted, and he is loved dearly by both his adoptive and his birth families.
There are thousands of couples out there waiting to adopt. It’s a process that can take years, is full of red tape, is very costly and can be emotionally draining. Imagine how many more families would adopt if they didn’t have to scale these hurdles.
Yet, many of us do — once, twice or more — because we want these babies. None of them are “unwanted.”
If you’d like more information about adoption you can contact Littlest Angels International at 970-856-6177 or any of the other local or statewide nonprofit agencies.
