I was born into a welfare family of six living in a tiny one-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn. I called welfare when I was 16 and told them to stop sending checks and got a job. I worked my way through college at nights while working six days a week and had a good career as an engineer, finally buying my company while raising two kids.
We bought economy cars and shopped for shoes at K-mart for many years while we invested our money in real estate and IRAs.
I retired at 45 and live a very comfortable life. I guess we are “rich.” Now Barack Obama wants to tax me extra to benefit people who chose not to help themselves. I feel this is wrong. It is class warfare, stifles initiative and is definitely not “patriotic.”
Understand, I would not object to paying some extra to assist anyone who wanted to go to college or get job training to work for a better life. I do object to having my hard-earned money sent to many who did not choose to work for it.
“Rich” is not a four letter word.

Mr. Uhl, I don’t know how much you make, but you should know that according to the Tax Policy Center, if you make under $600,000 a year, your tax will increase by no more than $12 under Obama’s plan.
What specific policies of Obama’s strike you as handouts? Much of his health care plan, for one, involves tax credits instead of direct payments etc, and taking measures to reduce costs of an industry that is out of control. Check out the recent Wall Street Journal column “Why Obama’s Health Care Plan Is Better.” It may surprise you.
Key point: Obama’s tax care plan will essentially return taxation for some of the upper brackets to where it was under Clinton, when we achieved a surplus. The tax policies of Bush, which have contributed to the massive defecit and debt and have cost the country money, have to be reversed if for nothing more than fiscal responsibility.

“if you make under $600,000 a year, your tax will increase by no more than $12 under Obama’s plan”
So when Obama says only those who make more than $250,000 a year will pay increased taxes, he meant $12? Are you nuts?
