Since the Fruita City Council is not willing to accept the fact that a tie vote equals a no, they have unanimously decided to have us vote again on weather to raise our taxes to build a recreation center.
School District 51 is going to be asking us to approve a bond issue to build much needed new schools for our growing population. With the state of the economy being what it is, and many of us on fixed incomes, we cannot afford both. The choices are clear education or recreation.
Our prisons are overflowing with people that lack education, not recreation. It is not only cheaper to build schools than prisons, but it makes more sense. Think about it.

Mr. Amirault is correct, but he forgets that such is what happens when the ordinary citizen doesn’t bother showing up, until after the fact. It is those who show up who get what they want. Then, the the mostly spineless and ‘head bobbing’ elected officials do what the ‘crowd’ wants. The few who show up and ‘dare’ speak up are subjected to ridicule and their opinion is suppressed. I know, I have attempted to stop things in Delta, both the county and the city, for years. Because I usually stand alone in doing so, I just get ‘bowled over’.
Some years ago, some citizens undertook to clean up the city government in Delta. After a few mediocre years, the same head-bobbing crowd, although with different faces, is back in charge. The same is true in the local school board, the library board, and even the Board of County Commissioners.
Sorry, boys and girls, if you don’t show up before the fact, then don’t bother showing up afterwards with the ‘woe is me’ rhetoric. Many of us are getting really tired of it. Grow up and grow a spine ‘up front’ and you may not have to do so much whining. It is most frequently those who do nothing who end up whining the most.
We certainly hope that the letter writer, Mr. Amirault, does not find himself in that crowd.

Well Mr. Laitres, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. (that’s original and nobody has ever said it before)
So please, show the courage of your convictions and run for political office again.
