Kudos to Chevron.
In a time when we are hearing so much negativity about Big Oil, it is nice to see that an oil company is making responsible decisions. Energy efficiency is the quickest, cheapest, and most effective way to combat rising energy costs and from reading, “Energy audit could save $1.3 million,” it seems that Chevron gets it.
It is the simple energy efficiency measures the article mentions that can have such a big impact not only for businesses but for residential homeowners. Chevron’s audit includes not heating or cooling unused rooms; if homeowners installed a programmable thermostat for roughly $70, they could regulate the temperature of their home. By only heating or cooling the home when people are inside, homeowners can recoup the cost of the investment within the first year in savings on their energy
bill, not to mention the savings for years to come.
As we face times of rising energy costs, it is important to take the logical steps to reduce the economic impact on all of us. Energy efficiency awareness will lead to sensible and sustainable investments
to our businesses and homes, and will help us weather the storm of rising energy costs. Peacock is right, I can’t see a downside either.
