For God’s sake, I haven’t found an airplane yet that doesn’t make any noise. Some of the GJ residents put in calls to 911 because of the noise the Blue Angels make while practicing for the air show this weekend? Hello!

Just where is their sense of patriotism? Instead of complaining about the noise, stand outside and enjoy the free show while the Blue Angels are practicing. I, for one, am ashamed for those who complain about this. I hope the Blue Angel pilots do not read the article in The Daily Sentinel about the multiple complaints 911 received.

And, just what did these people think they are going to accomplish by calling 911? Did they expect the Grand Junction Police Department to stop the Blue Angels from practice flying? Or did they want the police to give them a citation for having noisy jet engines and they should put a muffler on them? I am really floored and puzzled to what their purpose was to call 911 about this. 911 is for emergencies only, not for trivial calls like that.

So, the next time the wonderful Air Show comes to town again I have two suggestions for those people: Plan your vacation around the air show and get the heck out of Dodge while they are putting on a great show for everyone to enjoy or buy yourself a set of earplugs and you don’t have to listen to that ‘awful noise.’

God be with you, Blue Angels, fly safe and God bless America.

What do god & patriotism have to do with noise pollution and the Blue Angels? Is it patriotic (or religious) to piss away thousands of gallons of jet fuel? Guess who picks up the tab for this highly-orchestrated and slick military-recruiting campaign?

You & I, brother. Fly safe & loud & wastefully.

Get a life Nigel. The Blue Angels are all about patriotism, country and recruiting for the military and the Air Force in particular. And, yes, while maybe we don’t agree with everywhere the politicians send them, the people serving in those services provide the people living in this country with a level of security that is unsurpassed. If some noise, and expenditure of a few CO2 molecules is needed to allow large segments of the community to celebrate at least a few of those serving us, then so be it.

How about another low level high speed flyby.

Actually, oneperson, the Blue Angels are a Navy team. The USAF team is called the Thunderbirds.
And I don’t mind a little applause and adulation of the military at the expense of a little fuel and noise. They certainly don’t get enough from our government. But it would be nice if the average GI Joe or Jane (who faces a lot more danger than the people in these dog-and-pony shows do) would get some attention, too.

You are so wrong about this. The people who go to watch the air show pick up the tab. I get the impression by what you have said here and in another post, referring to the air show, you hate the military. I agree with oneperson, Nigel, Get a life!!!!

    Tasha -
Gate receipts from an Air Show don’t even come close to covering the costs. You’re talking about huge teams of mechanics and logistics who do nothing but work Air Shows. The US government (therefore, us) picks up the tab; and I don’t have a problem with that. I’d rather spend a few bucks of my taxes on an Ari Show than on a bunch of undertrained, overarmed contractors in Iraq who shoot up civilians.

Oh my was I off topic there? Yep sure was, don’t care either.

But I do agree with Erika. Don’t like the noise wear ear plugs. It seams to me people who don’t want the air shows, Fourth of July fireworks, that complain about the noise, are the ones who are not patriotic. I am so sick of these people.

    Whoa, now, tasha -
EVERYONE who doesn’t like loud noises is “not patriotic”?

Sorry Curmudgeon, I screwed up. I push send before I made my correction on the picking up the tab post. I was just irritated a little.

Curmudgeon: EVERYONE who doesn’t like loud noises is “not patriotic”?

When it comes to complaining about the air shows and Fourth of July events, yes, I would think that. The noise is short term, so why all the complaining. It sounds to me they just want to take away more of our freedoms. To me that is unpatriotic!!

I happen to enjoy loud rock & roll, pyrotechnics, and jet propulsion. What I don’t appreciate are political lies, unnecessary death, fear mongering, wasteful lifestyles, and censorship of military budgets & agendas.

Tasha, I sure hope you’ll provide the budget details regarding $25 viewer tickets funding the Blue Angels show. Maybe review some basic math first:

How much fuel does an F/A-18 Hornet use in a show? On the average, one F/A-18 uses approximately 8,000 pounds or 1,300 gallons of JP-5 jet fuel. (from an older version of the BA website – they no longer discuss this – only paint colors, etc.)

Using a conservative $7.00/gallon for JP-5 (WestStar currently sells Jet A for $6.80/gallon)….six planes burning 1300 gallons X $7.00 X three shows equals $164,000. Plus, add in three days of drills/warm-up, etc.
Then, factor in $25,000,000 per aircraft (for the very basic/stripped down model), support crew, transport to and fro the 70 shows the BA’s perform every year.

Oh, and consider training: minimum of 1350 hours for each of the 15 officer pilots (3000 hours for commander) times 1300 gallons/hour times 7 bucks a gallon. And so on. Staggering, isn’t it? Perhaps the ticket prices need to raised about 500 fold.

These are the real costs of the war machine. And the associated propaganda and recruiting campaigns….all cleverly funded by the uninformed taxpayers.

So, let me rephrase another earlier post:

OUR CONTINUED INFATUATION WITH THE MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL-ENTERTAINMENT COMPLEX IS KILLING THIS COUNTRY.

Who cares how many ways we pay for recruiters? It could never be too much. and I assume the folly you refer to is the killing of terrorists.

Think of the Air show as a way to review what your tax dollars are purchasing. Please remember that you have the freedom to write complaints about the Blue Angels because guys like the Blue Angels have died and are going to die so we can enjoy the freedoms of the US. Admiral Nimitz thought it was a good idea to show the American people what the military is doing and because of his efforts Japanese is not the national language.

    Tasha;
I still have to take issue with your characterization of everyone who complains about the noise of an Air Show or 4th of July fireworks to be “unpatriotic”. A low-altitude flyover from an F-15 can scare the living daylights out of more than a few people and their pets (I could care less, myself…several years in the Air Force helps you get used to that noise); just because they’re not happy about that, doesn’t mean they’re ‘unpatriotic’, In your view, does everyone have to agree with your views, and agree with your personal aesthetics, to be considered “Patriotic”?

Complaining about, or being unhappy with, the noise does not rise to the level of Anti-Americanism. It means they don’t like the noise.
