The Whining Valley … er … I mean the Grand Valley has been my home for my entire life mostly. Now before you get all bent because I’m calling it Whining Valley, I’m certainly not implying everyone here whines, but let’s look at some facts.

In the springtime we have JUCO and Memorial Day fireworks after the game. It’s been here a long time, we all know that, so don’t whine about the fireworks. Ditto that for the 4th of July. Don’t say they start too late, be thankful for why the fireworks are going off.

Now to what got me on this subject in the first place. It’s 2008, the last air show we had was in 2005. Are you people seriously calling 911 to complain about the noise? It’s one weekend out of the year every two or three years. I would be willing to bet you can live with the noise for one weekend and if you can’t, leave town, go to the mountains if it’s “too noisy” because to me, that “noisy” sound represents freedom and for that I’ll always be grateful to our Armed Forces and I will always support them.

To the whiners, be thankful you don’t live somewhere where it’s an everyday occurrence. To the participants of this years air show I say, CRANK IT UP!!!

Ignoring the issue itself, let us look at the essence of Mr. Oxford’s thinking with the words: “I would be willing to bet you can live with the noise for one weekend and if you can’t, leave town, go to the mountains.”

We have been hearing that too much of late. It displays little but an attitude of selfishness and arrogance on the part of such individuals. “I want it, so everybody else “leave.” That reflect the attitude of individuals who never consider the effect of their actions or what they want upon others. And that is seen in all areas and on all issutes. It depicts far more than intolerance, it moves into the realm of incivility.

How is “I would be willing to bet you can live with the noise for one weekend and if you can’t, leave town, go to the mountains.” any less tolerant than, no I don’t want the noise so you can’t do it?

MILITARY MADNESS IS KILLING OUR COUNTRY

  4. Curmudgeon

Close, Nigel. The madness of the people controlling our military is what’s killing our country.

    The sound of freedom.

  6. homegrowngirl

This isn’t about the noise, it is about the bleeding hearts and the War, for gosh sakes you people have ruined a perfectly good community to where it is almost beyond repair. The True Blue Born and Raised People of this community need to take your community BACK. Stop these transplants from ruining our home. Go back to where you came from and place all your Junk back into your own States, Leave Grand Junction to the beautiful people who remember the community before the likes of you came to turn it into a little California

  7. dc

I wonder how a member of the Ute tribe would feel about your claims of ownership. Your community? Oh, please.

  8. Rexall

I would guess they would be in total agreement!

  9. MiniVan_MacDaddy

Nah, them injuns were just takin’ up space until the REAL “True Blue Born and Raised People” could come and take what was rightfully theirs.

“Go back where you came from…” Wow.

  10. dc

Boggles the mind, don’t it Daddy?

  11. MiniVan_MacDaddy

No, sadly, it doesn’t. It’s all too predictable. Rexall actually thinks the Utes would AGREE with the people who FORCED THEM OUT of their homeland.
Abysmal Ignorance + Absolutely Certainty = Strength of Character to some folks.
And “White makes Right”, I guess…

  12. MiniVan_MacDaddy

No, wait…I’ve got it! The Heathen Utes were standing in the way of the “True Blue Born and Raised” people’s GOD-GIVEN RIGHT to take their land…so they just sent them Injuns “back where they came from” (Meaning, any desolate land that DOESN’T have water, oil, gold, uranium, or anything else we want).

  13. Scott

I think Rexall meant that the Utes would agree with the sentiment, but would include those that homegrowngirl calls the True Blue Born and Raised.

It is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence.

hgg appears to suffer from what I refer to as “door slammer syndrome”. The sentiment is: “I’m here now so it’s mine, and anyone I don’t like has no right to be here.”

My grandmothers’ people suffered the same fate as the Utes. They occupied central and eastern Kentucky until they were driven out by settlers so their white kids could claim to be “True Blue Born and Raised”.

  15. MiniVan_MacDaddy

    Scott;

I think you’re right. There’s no way Rexall would think that the Utes would support homegrowngirl’s “go back where you came from” mentality unless it included the people who took their land. I mean, anything else would be just stupid, right?

    Right, Rexall?

  16. Curmudgeon

    Of course, if there had been a sign at Plymouth Rock that said;

“GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM, AND TAKE YOUR GENOCIDE, ALCOHOL, AND SMALLPOX WITH YOU!”

I wonder where the “True Blue Born and Raised” folks would be, then?

I remember seeing a cartoon in an old Reader’s Digest that showed the Pilgrims coming ashore with a couple of natives watching from the bushes. One of them says, “Aw, let ‘em stay. What possible harm could they do?”

Well, let me see. Black Sunday hit Grand Junction May 2, 1982, when Exxon pulled the plug on its oil shale operations. People left in droves and our economy shut down. To recover, we actively marketed Grand Junction in other areas, especially to retirees who had money to buy homes and didn’t have school-age children, promoting our town and low home prices. It worked – Grand Junction became one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S., our economy boomed (construction, health care, tourism, retail), and local home prices rose in spite of the downturn in the national housing markets. As an added plus, many of the people attracted by these efforts turned out to be intelligent and successful people who brought diverse life experiences with them. I am a home grown boy, and I say “welcome” to all the “transplants” who came to Grand Junction – we are glad to have you here and find you pleasant neighbors. Please don’t mind the home grown cranks. These people who tell other people to “go back where they came from” need to remember that they only own that part of Grand Junction that is their own personal property as shown by their property deeds – all of the rest belongs to all taxpayers equally, no matter how long they’ve been here. What’s hypocritical about all this is that these same isolationists have children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends who have freely moved to Denver and even other states, where presumably they are accepted okay in those places. And, most of us Grand Junction natives feel that we would have the right to move freely anywhere in the United States, if we wanted to.

saw the blue angels this weekend, best event i’ve been to since juco this year. thanks for coming, your skill is amazing.

  20. warhorse

It was a little noisier than usually leading up to the show but I’m glad they came. I wish they would make the air show a yearly event.

The diffence is that it is not the one who is being asked to “leave town” that is doing the disturbing of the other. He/she is disturbing no other person. That is the difference.

Everyone ‘complains’, and way too much. But that is usually only seen when it is not something “they” want. When it is, from events to public works projects, be the latter a project in Fruita, Grand Junction, Delta, or Montrose, then “cost” is no problem. It is called being self-centered and narcissistic.

FutureQuest - Well said in your post #18, although I know of at least one regular poster (need his name be mentioned) who would vehemently disagree with your reasonable and thoughtful position.
