Please define “substantial roots” in The Daily Sentinel endorsement of Craig Meis over Dan Robinson for county commissioner. The Sentinel obviously needs a course in arithmetic to distinguish between close to 30 years for Robinson and 10 years for Meis in residing in the county.
As far as the endorsement, editorial team didn’t even attempt to compare the two records. Meis has worked in the oil and gas industry 100 percent of the time and Robinson has been involved in a diverse group of community service activities. Which one, in your view serves the majority of residents of this county? I promise it’s not a trick question. The Sentinel editorial is a lesson in how not to provide an endorsement.
And to not belabor the point, how dare Alex Taylor suggest the Sentinel is not biased. He, along with the rest of the editorial board, needs to look up the word in the dictionary. There they will find it does not stand for “clinging to your good ol’ boy base.” I know of a good journalism class at Mesa State that might help you craft the means and methods of a good newspaper.

One Response to “Sentinel errs with Meis endorsement”

Like it or not, the Oil and Gas Industry effects a large number of businesses (read: Sentinel Advertisers) in the Grand Valley. Craig Meis is the unabashed, unapologetic mouthpiece/waterboy for that industry. It only makes sense that The Sentinel would give him their endorsement; it’s simple economics. I don’t agree, but I don’t blame them, either.
They have a business to run.
