I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to community volunteers, OMNIA group members, members of the Old Spanish Trail, North Branch, G. J. Chapter and the BLM local field office for their participation at Saturday’s OSTA trail cleanup day. With your assistance, we were able to do a great job picking up and hauling off trash accumulated along the trail on a day designated as National Public Lands Day.
People took the opportunity to enjoy the sun and moderate temperatures to not only do a great public service to the community, but to share stories and history of the trail as well as see some native wild life. One such volunteer attending our outing had no idea what the trail was (its history or recent controversy) or what to expect when she arrived that morning. Many thanks Susanna, for taking time out of her busy school and work schedule to spend the morning with us.
I encourage all interested persons, and recreational users of the trail to do what you can to pick up trash when you see any and report abusers of the trail (I.e. ATVs or unauthorized motorized use) to the local BLM field office and/or the Mesa County Sheriffs’ office. More information is available on the trail at oldspanishtrail.org and updates on current threat status at omneighbors.com.
I also encourage the community to express concerns and support of the trails survival and public access to the Grand Junction City Council, Mesa County Commissioners, Riverfront Commission, local BLM field office as well as State Senator Josh Penry.
Thanks again and “HAPPY TRAILS.”
