The opening line of the editorial on Oct. 1 says, “We believe people should have the right to choose whether they belong to a labor union or pay dues to a union …”

That should have been the end of the editorial, because Amendment 47 is only a win-win for Colorado. It’s a win for Colorado workers because it will give every worker the freedom to choose whether or not to join a union. It doesn’t take away a worker’s ability to join a union. It only says that a worker cannot be forced to do so.

And it’s a win for Colorado’s economy, which affects all of us. We are doing very well in the Western Slope, but what happens when we’re not doing so well? Amendment 47 will help bring in new businesses, new jobs, and a better opportunity for all.

Vote “Yes” on Amendment 47.

It is already illegal to force anyone to join a union according to the National Labor Relations Act and the Colorado Labor Peace Act.

Connell: “Amendment 47 will help bring in new businesses, new jobs, and a better opportunity for all.”

When you realize that 92% of the work currently done in Colorado is performed by non-union members, then you recognize this statement for the baloney that it is. Amdnment 47 is crafted by representatives of big corporations who simply want to break up unions so that workers will have to accept the corporate working conditions of the 1920’s. Currently workers have the right to work for non-union employers or employers who have crafted agreements with unions. Amendment 47 is anti-worker but cleverly written so that it seems to be for exercising free choice. Reminds me of the tactics of the Creationists who are always on about giving students the choice of listening to the principles of evolution or “intelligent Design”
    Vote no on 47
